I will never understand what Gibbons did wrong, apart from go from an excellent start to his career to an indifferent run of games after.

 

He's still a good player and has those innate attributes which we lack; aggression, physicality, pace.

 

If I load up twitter and see "no changes from the Macclesfield game" I'll be sorely tempted to stay in the pub.

Without Rawlinson we become quite a short side. Most teams at this level have 3 or 4 players over 6 foot. If we play Smith at the back we've only really got Legge and Pope with real height and a high percentage of goals at this level are from set pieces.

 

I'd like Oyeleke to be playing a bit deeper in Kay role. I get why he got pushed further forward in a central 3 but I don't think he's been that effective. When he's played deeper we've played our best football and he's been able to dictate the tempo of the game. If he wants to play with 3 in centre midfield I'd play Conlon and Hannatt alongside him in slightly more advanced roles.

Wow - glad not made the journey up there. Think I will go with three shots on goal and two strikes which hit the corner flags. Plenty of hoof ball and come off with a 2 nil. Yep loss.

 

Please please prove us wrong and we come away with a great play by Vale and a couple of goals. The joy of being a Vale fan I suppose - never easy is it.

Shame really if he does leave, but seems unwilling to learn how to pass the ball when there is a better chance to score. Seems he needs to prove himself to much by wanting to score himself and this means good chances to score by other players does not happen. They then have a go at him probably after the match and in Popes case - during the match.

Clark is a proper full back. Hopefully he turns up this week. Vassell is very lucky to keep his place IMO.

 

Pleased to see 2 forwards on, but like others have said is Quigley mobile enough and even brave enough to play up front and take the batterings Pope does. Hopefully they can get some service today and we play on the front foot. I’m assuming Conlon is left wing today, another square peg in a round hole.

Even when he hit an inconsistent patch I’m struggling to think of a game where he was taken to the cleaners or looked out of his depth or making costly game changing mistakes. At a push I’d even say we’ve seen worse games from the likes of Vassell and rawlinson in the full back areas. In light of that I’d say he’s been unlucky to be a scapegoat for some reason.
