Match Thread - Port Vale v Grimsby Town

No time for a Xmas hangover against a Mariners crew catching goals a plenty in the nets. Whether they now have one eye on their trip to the Palace is a forlorn hope, similar to the hopes of an attacking strategy from the Vale? Who knows it is Xmas after all.

We are only three points ahead of where we were after 23 games last season. We then won two in a row after Christmas so unless we win one of our next two home games, we will have less points at the end of 2018 than 2017. Frightening really when you consider that Brown was in charge for half of those games last year.

OK but he only got 5 points from the first 12 games.

And some think aspin is doing a decent job. Just as bad as Michael brown.

That’s exactly the point. Aspin has had 23 games this season with his team and has got 28 points, only 8 more than he did in just 11 (23 less 12) games last season. Downward spiral me thinks. 9 wins out of 46 league games in 2018 is pathetic.

And yet, we are giant favorites on bet365... go figure

Grimsbys away form has been the issue for them.

Think they’ve won five or six in a row at home.

On the forum I go on they played fairly poorly yesterday apparently but Notts County defensively we just so bad they got 4!

Just seen those figures above 9 wins in 2018 is woeful. Not a clue what team we should play but I'd imagine if Rawlinsons fit he'll be back in. Same old same old. I'd go with:-

Brown

Gibbons Legge Smith Clarke

Manny Kay Conlon

Kanu/Monty Pope Whitfield

Need to get some pace in this pedestrian side. Montys an enigma doesn't do anything during a game but his goal return is decent tbf. Kays been steady since he's come back in and has a goal in him. Think we need the protection he offers if we're playing two attacking full backs. Obviously that'll be nothing like Neil's starting 11.

Brown

Gibbo Legge Smith Vassel

Monty Conlon Manny Hannant

Pope Quigley

Bench:

Kanu

Miller

Kay

Hornby

Dodds

Worrall

44 f'ing 2

If he starts with Kay in front of the back 4 at home to Grimsby with one up front then he deserves all the criticism he will undoubtedly get.

Do you expect anything else?? I sure don't...
