Match Thread - Port Vale v Grimsby Town

Grimsby maybe a poor side to you and they didnt play as well as they have. Probably down to having 5 injuries and then ending up having a 5ft 4" right back at centre half a midfielder at right back and three youth team.players on the bench. And still we managed the game out quite easily. We can play better but i doubt you can.

To be fair pal you beat us 1-0 and we're on a run of form which is as bad as many fans can remember.

I wouldn't get too excited about the result. If you hadn't have won there'd be serious questions, things are that bad for us right now.

We'll both end up in the same part of the table come the end of the season, lower mid-table.

Your probably right. Wasnt excited about the result as it was a real poor game and a smash and grab from us albeit a great goal. Living in the area i have always watched Vale with friends when i can as i hate Stoke and there supporters. However i have never liked Aspin from his Gateshead days and know all about his style of play and disappointed to see it at Vale.

Oh dear Paul !

Bet you were one who said that we were not lucky against Bury and it was Bury who were a poor side.

Look what has happened since

Nope, I was one of the ones who praised Danny Mayer and wished we had a player of his ability and wish we could sign him.

I agree we had more attacking play and chances on Sat than in previous games but my view is that Grimsby were a poor side and other recent teams were better than them. Other teams " passed us off the park "

Our recent un-beaten run has been a ' poor ' run for me.

We needed to win these games and not scrape draws

Of course Vale need to win games like the last 3 or 4 but those teams were mostly teams that have turned things around, see Macc won at Notts on Boxing day.

Grimsby have now won 4 of the last 5 games, so poor side at the moment....arguable. They "did" Vale by being solid away from home, decent on the counter and delivered the sucker punch, sometimes it will work for them sometimes it won't, it worked cause Vale just could not put the ball in the net for whatever reasons.

Because we're ****, and thanks to Aspin's incompetence are relying on a slow forward that's past his best and isn't getting any half decent service because we don't have genuine wingers. I don't class Montano as a winger because I don't think even he knows his best position, nevermind Aspin.

You'll still be defending the manager and blaming everything else when we're playing Conference football under him.

All this disagreement about Aspin, tactics and the fact that we should be beating sides like Morcambe Macclesfield and Grimsby all come down to the simple fact that the Vale are no bigger than the aforementioned, in fact I would say Grimsby are bigger than us,it all comes down to Smurthwaite and his desire to run the club on a shoe string, any dissatisfaction should be laid at his door.

I don't think he would be particularly bothered if we got relegated, he would just simply cut the cloth accordingly, and there lies the problem, Aspin, tactics and results are just the symptom,Smurthwaite is the cause.

We are a poor team with a very poor manager.

I really do wonder if it is time to change the manager

Are the players playing for him or have they lost confidence in him

Isnt that the massive worry, that teams beliw us, poor teams we thought have now turned things round. Will notts county turn things around?

We have a massive battle ahead and i dont think Aspin can do it for us

Last year we beat coventry 4 0

Have a look at our team that day.

6 or possibly 7 players you would not pick today yet we had such a great performance.

Maybe coventry had a big big off day?

Lets hope tomorrow we do turn it on and Oldham have an off day.

January is a tough month

Don’t expect Smurf to go until all the Hugill money has been paid.Would you trust Aspin with 400k with his ability to bring in more centre backs and not use the better flair players he already has.Hopefully we will not lose the better players in the January window if Smurf is offered his pieces of silver to squirrel away in his back pocket as expenses.
