Match Thread - Port Vale v Notts County

Notts County this season, just goes to show, that splashing the cash doesn't always get you succes. In the summer, people were crying out for us to spend like Notts County, but I bet they wouldn't want to swap with them now... Imagine the outcry on here, if we had the start Notts County had...

People going apes... that we didn't get Kristian Dennis, who has all of 1 goal for them this season...

It's a case, as always, of some people never being happy. When we were losing, people were demanding that we win. When we were leaking goals, people were demanding that we don't concede. Now that we haven't conceded in 3, despite winning 2 of those, people are demnading that we win and score more than one!

You forget: AND that we play better than Man City and Barcelona combined.

Notts County 7/5 favourites with the bookies for this. Bit surprising.

Pretty sure this will be statistical/algorithm driven.

There were similar odds at home to Coventry under Bruno when we had a 100% home record and they were rock bottom.

It might be down to our xG.

What is that 'xG'?? How can you calculate, how many goals a team is expected to score?

Don't get it and think it's odd...

Expected goals, statistical analysis of a team`s goals scored from chances of various difficulties in top leagues, quite labour intensive I would think. Cant image much time is spent on L2 games.

Notts are the only team in L2 to have lost their last 3 league games, due for a change ? Goal averages Vale 15/19 = 0.79, Notts 18/34 = 0.52, Notts more likely to score but likely to let in far more.

XG isn't everybody's cup of tea but it's a thing.

How detailed the analysis is at this level, I don't know.

Based on bare stats, seven points is a very good haul considering we created a total of five shots on target in the last three games.

The reason I think it's bullocks, is because I waaaaay too often see the frase ie.: 'even though Port Vale's xG were far less than Notts County's, the Vale still put 4 past Notts'. So it's using statistics to guess, as there is no way at all anyone can predict how a game folds out. My guess is as good as theirs.

Odd one as they are the second worst away side in the league! P8 W1 D1 L6

Our home form has been good and we've only been beaten by Lincoln, MK and Newport all in the mix at the top.

Sleeping giants of this Division.

They will come good and as Vale are going through a decent spell at present then who knows, County may just click against us, especially if we have a defensive outlook from the kick off.

Sleeping giants? behave, I nearly choked on my wrights.
