Seen as a few threads have gone off topic and been closed due to discussion turning to Doddsy, I thought it a good idea to start a thread where people can come and discuss the man himself.

 

I for one think it’s great he is back, great little squad player, will hopefully chip in with 5 or so goals over the season, and according to the press we got him for a steal!

 

I know some people have vearnontly different views... I would genuinely like to understand why. We finally have a place to discuss it without sending other threads off topic.

I don't get why some posters on here actually want Dodds to fail. No matter how much I dislike a Vale player (Martin Paterson!) I would never want him to fail in a Vale shirt.

The latest issue of Derek I'm Gutted says that his weekly wage is being split between Vale and Chesterfield, with each club paying half of his £1800/week.......not what I'd call a steal!

I don’t know the facts, and no one does really (unless Norman decides to email the players wages to a bunch of unexpectibg fans again 😂)

I’m going of what Aspin says, who made out it was a very cheap deal for the club.

The ones that get me are those that go one step further and claim (behind the safety of a keyboard) that they will hurl abuse at Doddsy and wholeheartedly boo him when his name gets read out! Sad really.

If that’s correct that is a steal for a player of his quality and experience and that much total isnt far off the going rate in league two.

I like Louis Dodds. He is a great team player who is well respected by other players. You don't get that respect for nothing. I feel he has under achieved for a long time though. He is capable of better than he has shown, and I think that is, to an extent, what Neil Aspin said to him when he signed.

 

It is a good deal for us and for Louis. He will add value to the squad. Somes fans love him, some hate him, I don't know why he divides opinion so much. Perhaps it is because everyone can see how good he is sometimes, but not consistently.

 

I found the Sentinel headline interesting when it highlighted Phil Sherwin's asseessment which said "Play Louis Dodds and he can bag 10 goals for the Valiants this season".

 

A delve into Louis' career record will show that he has NEVER scored 10 league goals in a seson. He once scored 10 for Vale in total, 10 years ago. I would love him to score 10 or more this season. However, those types of headlines put more pressure on Louis and will add fuel to the fire if he does not achieve those standards. It is somehting of a vicious circle.

 

I welcome him back and hope that he can find some kind of indian summer ending to his career. If he needs any inspiration look at Roy Sproson who scored more than a third of his total career goals in two seasons age between 37-39. No pressure then Louis!

Two years ago he was Shrewsbury's top scorer with 10 goals.

Seems to play well with Popey and in my mind I had him as a player who would come off the bench rather than a starter. Looks like there is a possibility he could be starting which is partly due to his own form in the friendlies and issues with Miller. Compared to what we had last season I still see Dodd as an improvement and will get my full support.

The main thing is options. We don't want players all the same, whether he plays early or late in a match, he will get time on the pitch if he contributes. Hopefully some golden moments with Pope.
