Two former Vale players have moved to new clubs this summer. Winger Byron Moore has left Bristol Rovers and joined Bury. It means the winger could face former clubs Vale and Crewe next season. Sorry to pick up the accuracy of this article. Concord Rangers are not formerly Canvey Island FC. Canvey Island FC (who many Vale fans remember from our 2000 FA Cup exit) are still alive and kicking and they play in the Isthmian League. Concord Rangers, also based on Canvey Island, are a totally different football club. Lincoln City manager, Danny Cowley, started his career at Concord and he did a superb job in taking them to their current level. I am surprised Billy Knott has signed for Concord, but I look forward to seeing him playing in the NFL (South) in the coming season.

You beat me to it EV ! Different clubs, different grounds ! Those of us who were in Canvey for that rainy Sunday midday kick off FA Cup match could verify that ! Another Horton masterclass. 4-2 up in the last minute and we STILL didn’t win. “Nobby” even outdid himself in the replay of course.

The incredible thing is that Canvey Island actually has two senior football teams. The population of the island is about a third, yes one third, of Newcastle under Lyme. I wonder how Concord Rangers survive, but they not only survive but prosper as well.

Sorry - my mistake. Call it lazy journalism but as the time on the article shows it was published at 1pm (last minute of my lunch break) in a rush.

However, I will amend the story now to reflect that Concord Rangers are in Canvey but are not Canvey Island football club...

Hard to believe where Knott ended up.

Jennison Myrie-Williams is playing at Hereford and only 30. Got to be a better player than Byron Moore who has signed for Bury, or Colin Daniel who has moved to Peterborough. JMW has been a bit of a silly boy at times as he turned down contracts a couple of times at league clubs and ended up without a team.

Goes to show there is a lot of talent getting missed now (are Academies really the way to go). The number of players moving to league clubs seems much higher than in previous years. There is a lot to be said for players actually playing proper football to develop, rather than this under 23 rubbish that's evolved.

It was lazy journalism... ;-)

Sad to see this. It seems like the lad has had some similar issues to Gary Roberts. What a waste of talent.

Came across this in the Non-League paper this weekend, which explains why Billy chose to go to Concord. It's a sad story really (but hopefully with a happy ending) and I wish the lad well. We sometimes forget how much life outside football affects young players.
