Balfour agreement 1917 former Turkish Empire

That was the intention to form a Palestinian state.

The Uk were against the formation of Israel as were the Arabs, That’s why there was a Palestinian war from 1945.

Moysher Dyan and David Ben Guryan fought in it and went on to be Defence Minister and Prime Minister

Off topic a touch, I know, but the history of the last 70 years will tell you that the majority of voters tend towards the centre, more often right than left but both colours if they gravitate towards the middle ground.

What has happened increasingly is that the main parties have gone right and left, and the far right has re-appeared largely through Brexit and immigration issues.

But if Jezza nudges his way past the finishing line next time out the Tories only have themselves to blame. They deliberately chose the path of austerity and placed the burden of debt on those least able to cope (hence, the rise of the left wing in the Labour movement), and are so split over Europe that they can't agree on anything themselves and risk handing over power to another party.

It's doubtful that either of the main parties will get an overall majority but the Tories are more divided and have it all to lose.

In the meantime the minor parties of the centre or centre left (ie Greens) don't have much of a chance due to the electoral system, which Fosse reminds us, tends to revolve around 200 closely fought seats as most of the rest are fairly safe ones.

Don't they always reckon that governments lose elections, oppositions don't win them?

Agreed, but we set off the entire episode during WW1, as we did carving up the Ottoman/Turkish Empire, Persia, Iraq etc, and the wars carry on helped by the clamour for oil in the past.

For me, the fake manufactured furore over the foreword Corbyn wrote for Hobson's Imperialism sums up much of the 'antisemitism' claptrap that's leveled at him and his party. The Guardian's Jonathan Freedland went on a diatribe about the latest Times smear job, failing to mention the Guardian itself talked about the same book when Corbyn became leader, did not mention anything about anti-semitism, and actually praised Corbyn's foreword. Lib Dem era Nick Clegg also referenced the book, as it was very influential on the liberal movement. Noted anti-semites Tristam Hunt and Tony Blair have also previously written in praise of the book.

Now someone has gone onto the wikipedia page for the book, which until yesterday had stood for years without a single reference to the books supposed antisemitism, and inserted lots of references to it.

God help us if it comes out that Corbyn studied The Merchant of Venice at school.

If this is all claptrap why was a fourth man arrested yesterday in connection with alleged anti-Semitic offences by members of the Labour Party, after*LBC handed the Metropolitan Police an internal party dossier?

Why did the Jewish Labour Movement pass a motion of no confidence in Corbyn's leadership last month?

Why last year did Dame Margaret Hodge, who lost several relatives in the Holocaust call him "a racist" and "anti-semite" to his face?

Why is the party currently under investigation by both the Met.Police and the Equality and Human Rights Commission?

Why has Jewish moderate MP Luciana Berger and a number of other MP's defected from Labour because of Corbyn?

It does appear that there is/has been a problem with anti-semitism in some parts of the Labour movement. It would be churlish to deny that but there is a danger that it can be exaggerated out of all proportion by the right wing press for their own political gains.

The preamble to an economics book from the best part of ten years ago is neither here nor there and was clearly dragged up from the past to try and make a point.

There is a difference between criticising what the Israeli state sometimes does in Palestine and anti-semitism but blurring the lines is convenient for some.

The Chakrabarti Report concluded that anti-semitism was ‘not endemic’ in the Labour Party but there was more recent evidence that was said to involve 0.08% of members. One is too many but it's hardly a national emergency.

Where it exists it should be stamped out but in every walk of life occasionally intolerance rears its ugly head.

We know that there are numerous problems with Islamophobia in the Tory party but they get short shrift at the bottom of page 14.

Chope did his best to block that up-skirting law a few weeks ago.

One or two stupid individuals should be called out for what they are but we shouldn't tar everyone with the same broad brush.

Thanks for at least acknowledging these claims but it isn't the press that's initiating these complaints about the Labour party it's their own MP's and the Jewish Labour Movement. The press are just reporting it.

The Local elections today should see swathes of seats go to UKIP and Independents...Labour in particular will be in for a kicking

The EU elections will see both UKIP and Brexit party clearing up

Labour proposing a General election is nothing short of political suicide

I don't see UKIP being a threat in the Euro elections....... I don't see any massive swings outside the main parties in the locals, what I suspect is that turnout will drop considerably...... but it's just opinion and guess work..... a bit like polls really.

Funnily enough I was reading an article the other day that reckoned a high proportion of ex Empire country voters voted for Brexit as they saw it as a way of their relations having better access to the jobs market in this country. Which is ironically quite amusing. Unless you are a Yaxley Lemon supporter

Difficulties recruiting Indian chefs apparently a problem, although Leicester bucked the trend and voted to remain.

The problem of not having a career politician as party leader, some MPs take up causes and campaign without thought for a ministerial career. Jews don't have all the same view, some extremely the opposite.
