Brexit again...

We have a two party electoral system which can give a government from 25% of the electorate, we then have a referendum which backs a third party from 37% of the electorate. No wonder there is not a clear plan.
Good point, yet when MEP's are elected using a proportional representation system some people decry it as 'undemocratic'.

Blair wasn't any better or worse than many other PMs.... high on promise low on delivery.... high expectation at the beginning high on denial at the end.
Whilst I think there's a lot of truth in what you say you don't half come across as a disillusioned soul! Flawed as the system may be it's better than anything else we've devised as a species, although it could and should be significantly improved.

I don't like the list system where the party picks the order, more democratic if they were selected on votes cast.

Disillusioned?.... no...... reality.

It's not the system that's at fault, although it could be improved, it's the people who get elected that create the problem and the party system that distorts it.

I love your irony SOTT; why use what are pretty pejorative terms though?
Used in jest, unlike some other folk who use them in seriousness. I missed out the Krauts (with their excellent reds) who I often have fun with calling them that when they call me an Island Monkey. All in good fun though. The food based one I've never got is the French calling us Roast Beefs, as I've pointed out it's hardly an insult, what would you say was better, eating roast beef or munching on toads? They always struggle with a comeback for that one!

It's great when you can laugh together about the ridiculous insults we used to denigrate each other with.

I know where you're coming from; the problem is the words can be offensive in themselves. Try using the N word to a black person (if you're not black) and see what the response is. IMHO these words are best avoided.

I think some terms are much more offensive than others, the N one being a case in point. If I were a black person I'd be livid at the way rappers use the term irrelevant of their justifications, how can they expect to stop its derogatory use if some of their own perpetuate its use? I know a few black people who agree with that view. As for the European insults it depends in the way they're used, I was being ironic as some Brexiteers use those terms in the Old fashioned derogatory manner whereas many of us can now laugh at such terms and belittle them for what they are.

Maybe I should just keep the joking to my European friends in case it's taken the wrong way?

So do you consider Limey, Pomme and Brit etc to be pejorative?
Depends what is meant by the terms..

Limey? I like limes so no problem.

Pomme? Immigrant or prisoner of mother England.... I am so it excludes the second.

Brit? I'm not, I'm English but it's not offensive, just shows ignorance.

But that's just me

I don’t follow this thread, so if this has been brought up before I apologise.

However, I’ve just been informed from a reliable source that the Plough Motel on Campbell Road Stoke which has basically been abandoned for months, is to become a holding area for immigrants.

The Motel rooms are to be converted, no doubt at tax payers expense, to accommodate the anticipated income of asylum seekers.

How does this information sit within the minds of Brexit Capital residents of Stoke On Trent ?
