40 appearances in league one for Doncaster suggest he has something. Better than adf I think.

From what I've seen grand far worse. Adf has been poor but Middleton has shown literally nothing. He was rubbish for Doncaster and there fans commented on how bad of a signing he was. First of many out hopefully.

I said the same in the Sobbs thread but Aspin has already proved that the players need to step up quickly. Come in to the side, seize the chance and do well and you keep the shirt (Anderson, Gibbons). Come in to the side and do poorly and you're either dropped or shipped out (Denton, Montano, Middleton).

 

With the usual starting 11 playing so well, training and reserve games are the only places where players like ADF, Stobbs, Middleton, Turner, Wilson etc can impress. Their lack of game time shows they need to improve in Aspins eyes.

I seem to remember that the vast majority of his Donny appearances were as a substitute though.

Thats the one thing with midfielders and forwards, they could have a load of appearances against their name and yet a lot of them may not be starts so their minutes on the pitch doesn't add up to a great deal.

Great point. We should go back to the old system whereby sub appearances were listed as such, so starts and sub were accounted for as separate entities. Many years ago, Rudge was quoted as saying that he made substitutes late in the game so as if the player was later transferred and it went to a tribunal, Vale could claim that he played X amount of games although most were cameo appearances. But that was Rudge !
