Sjoke Freezing Prices

Sentinel reporting that Stoke are freezing season ticket prices to their 2008 levels and that they will be recording record attendance levels. How the hell our we supposed to compete? I know we have a pauper who owns our beloved club, but something drastic needs to be done on this side, before we lose another generation of fans. So friggin' frustrated at how far we have fallen as a competing club!!

We cannot possibly compete, admission money does not matter to them, they can cruise in the middle of the Prem for ever, well clear of the yo-yo teams that take most of the relegation spots. Only poor management will change that. However we can exist, in a similar fashion to Rochdale. Bury etc in the shadow of the Manc clubs. With good management even prosper as a mid table L1 team. Just being realistic, and ever hopeful of a golden spell.

If Smurf is a pauper then I am a downright peasant! Not sure if you are aware of the money pumped into the premier league which allows clubs like Stoke to freeze ticket prices without taking any hit at all. I think Stoke could let every fan in for free and it would not effect their income in the slightest. Every club outside the premier league is in the same boat.

We can't compete and they are contributing to the death of Vale unfortunately.

I cannot see how Vale can survive these times. Norman Smurthwaite is a lunatic but even if he was relatively sane I wouldn't envy the task of making anything of Vale now. It's a task for someone far more wealthy than Smurthwaite who does not expect much of a return.

The only way for Vale to ignite interest now is for a radical change, a rebrand, a new ground, a new identity that people could buy into. A job far too big and advanced for a one man band, particularly one that could not sell a dream if his life depended on it.

We could make a start by embarking on a serious marketing campaign, beginning with allowing children in for free.

Under 9s are practically free still aren't they?

I think the challenge is convincing adults to want to bring their children.

Vale Park is crumbling, looks hideous with that unfinished stand, food is awful, no sense of occasion. Those that go are currently going out of a loyal sense of obligation.

U16s should be free or pay £50 for a season ticket, as i think u16s have to pay £10 to watch us. I know we keep going on about doing something, but we need something to happen sooner rather than later as i believe in 5 or so years we will be playing non league football if things stay as they are.

I think the challenge for parents is convincing their kids to go with them! My son is 10 now. He's had a season ticket since the week he was born. I had to pay for his ticket this season and he now hates going as he is bored of the performances and sick of losing!

We need to invest in the team. A core of seven quality players through the spine of the team with a mix of experience and youth for the rest of the 22 man squad.

2 keepers

4 full backs

4 central defenders

6 midfielders

2 utility players

4 forwards

...and use loans as and when.

Not rocket science.

Clearly beyond NS though.
