Matchday Thread: Oldham A v Port Vale

Let`s start the year as we mean to go on with wins on the road. Enthusiasm and confidence will be gained faster than fitness and playing tempo, also the impact of the transfer market in January is an unknown factor. Our first test are the Latics who have not won a League game since they beat Scunny in October, so be careful lads, although we have the benefit of the extra day between games as they play today. Also the chance of a scouting trip to Fleetwood by our new management team. So come on Vale, let`s get back up the table.

If we can defend as solid as we did last night it will give us a good chance.

Think we will win this for some reason 1-0

Definitely the first step in turning things round.

Keeping it tight at the back.

We were solid and had enough experience last night.

Worryingly, I'm a little hopeful for this one!

Me too with my lad, it was freezing. That miss was unbelievable, an open goal to make us 2 nil up and he smashed over into the terrace...

Oldham had all those food deals. They were brilliant, like meal deals, burger, pie or hot dog, chips and a drink for 5 or 6 quid I think.

Showed that small clubs can get the catering right.

Test the market, build, and maintain supply,

Oldham have met stiffer opposition in their last few games, losing the last two to inform teams in Sheffield Utd. and Southend.

They have the 6th best defensive record in L1, to date.

Vales last seven games have been against some of the weaker teams in L1 and have struggled to score many goals. They have only scored 5, whilst conceeding 12.

0-0 or 1-1 might be the result. If Oldham score first, the Vale will struggle to score, unless M.Brown can instill confidence and aggression into the squad before Monday.

To be hoped that Alex Jones recovers for the game to give Vale a better chance of gaining one, or three points.

A good result at Oldham may be the kickstart needed to climb up the table; especially if one or more additional players (of quality) can be signed in the January window.
