Exactly, and if you're interested enough you tend to find out anyway.

Some fans want their hands wiping.

Yeah, & some just need enticing, or are too busy during the week to go searching for stuff like that. We've sat back for long enough & hoped that the fans will return when they hear about good performances, it's not working. There's a hardcore like us that will go whatever happens at every club, but looking at our attendances (& the atmosphere that comes with them), there's clearly a big problem in attracting floaters (& younger fans).

The amount of money it would take to publicise on the radio and in the sentinel would never be covered By the potential increase in gates for this game

Pretty sure the Sentinel would publish the prices for free, even as a footnote to an article. Adverts cost money, yes, but I doubt we would ever advertise in the Sentinel for such a small game.

But would increase the gate nonetheless.

And if Some of them supporters then turn up in the league games, that wouldn't normally, then it's good long business for the club.

Some of us knew the price of tickets over a week ago.

Therein lies the problem.... hardcore fans will seek the information the casuals wont, and its the casuals that need to be targeted.... marketing doesnt rely solely on what you do, its essential that you tell people what you are doing and keep it in the buyers mind as much as possible.

Absolutely spot on.

We know we have a hardcore of around 2500. Their life is Port Vale football club.

It's the 3000 casuals we need to target and then the next step of increasing that number.

We don't do enough to intice supporters and haven't done under Normans tenure.

It's not as easy as lowering the prices and sitting back thinking job done.

I mentioned something similar about a year ago and nothing has changed.

But Norman is the man and if you question him his actions on things he will patronise you and his lovers on twitter will attack you left right and centre.

I do hope we get the result we require on Saturday or this club will implode again and even more fans will walk away because of Mr Egotistical himself.

I think the hard core is a little higher than that... but its starting to wobble.

Its sad that everything seems short term, drop the price for one game, dont advertise it very well then scrap it as a failure because 10,000 dont turn up... its a recipe for failure.

Nothing is free but the cost of accumulating and using a data base is relatively inexpensive.

Run a competition [?] where the prize is not just Vale related... make entry email only... make condition of entry data can be used... not sure if its legal but something similar would bring in the information needed... then use it to sell the product... especially to kids who can be far more persuasive [where parents are concerned] than advertising could ever be... a bit mercenary but needs must.

Season ticket sales, historically, suggest it isn't anymore.

We only ever had 2500-3000 STs in the championship 20 years ago.

The real hardcore is 2500 and as soon as supporters stop rewriting history and agreeing with a chairman who hasn't a clue in our historical attendances, the better,
