Searching Before Games

I clearly don't in Burslem but I do on away grounds - that is my issue - not the searching in itself.

If it's to be done, I want it done properly and not by blokes/lasses who have had no proper training and who may, indeed, have a criminal record. If I'm not carrying a bag and am not wearing a coat, what exactly am I trying to smuggle in?!!

perhaps they think you are hiding a large tool in your trousers

The only issue I do have with it as it never seems like a proper search at Vale. I definitely agree on the training part there.

But like I said, you probably get it sometimes at away games because they're told not to discriminate by age & the way you look etc, just do a selection of all age groups instead.

It's necessary if the intelligence says it is and the last major incident isn't the one you have to worry about,it's the next one,so prevention is better than cure.

We saw how good the so called police intelligence was last season (or the season before) when they massively over policed a game based on police intelligence.

Do 'Police' and 'Intelligence' go in the same sentence let alone two words together ? I think the game that you are referring to was against Doncaster which was almost called off because of the police and their 'non' intelligence.

I've been searched a couple of times going into the railway stand but not this season and it was completely random. It's annoying, but at the end of the day it's for safety reasons. We have enough strange excuses for people not attending as it is please don't try and use this as one. I can't see anything happening at vale park but if we are already worrying about attendances and a bomb does go off one day then the attendances will drop further due to the potential losses of lives which can be prevented by these searches. We live in a world now that is so full of hate and discrimination, a recent example being the tram ride mr hobbleworth unfortunately had to endure at Bury. there are people who have been arrested locally to vale park with connections to Isis and a football ground would be an easy target. It's dangerous enough outside as most teenagers nowadays walk around with knives and if they see you on your own there is a high chance they will try to rob you and wouldn't think twice about sticking it in you if you don't give them what you have because even if they killed you they would get a pathetically short sentence probably playing on playstations because of their age. I've had two very lucky escapes the past couple of years because of my last point, being followed by 3 lads both times. The last occasion i just decided to walk into somebodies garden in Tunstall and they shouted to let me know i was "a very lucky boy". Anyway, i'm rambling there but at the end of the day, if they were searching everyone on the trains and buses before the London bombings I'm sure there would have been a lot of people complaining about it. But i doubt many people complain about it happening now.

What you are basically saying is that wherever you go, the pub, the shopping centre, the hospital, the bus etc you would be happy for some unqualified person to search you at random for safety reasons in case some nutcase (who may not be one of those searched)has a bomb. Think you've been watching too many movies or too much TV.

What i am basically saying is what i said. you missed lots of my points i mentioned. The isis connections in stoke was on the news recently, along with some people from Birmingham i think? so i suppose that's where you got the tv idea from. I also mentioned about being in certain situations in REAL LIFE which have effected me to have these kinds of views. Ofcourse i agree it is annoying, and i wouldn't want it everywhere but for the reason that it's for, why is there any need at all to moan about it? It takes two seconds, if your'e problem is that it's someone unqualified then raise the concern with the club itself or start one of those petitions to call for all searches in the country to be conducted by qualified people. But in the meantime, if someone asks me before i enter their property then it's completely fine with me and i think it's completely fine for them to turn anyone away who refuses. It's just not worth the hassle of arguing with them about because in the meantime the search would have been finished and you would be on your way to your seat. You put in brackets that someone could get through if they don't get searched, which is true but they could also just as easily catch someone. Ideally we could do with some technology that can search everybody without them even knowing. I'll just watch the Matrix now to see if i can get any ideas and then i'll get back to you.

In this neck of the woods there is signage in all the big shopping, sporting, recreational and airport facilities notifying of the reserved right to search person or packages and, in most cases uniformed security staff are on hand to escort you to a private area should it be deemed a more thorough search is required.

Are such security personnel trained for such duties? Hopefully, yes.

Do they make an overall difference to our safety? I believe so.

Having said that, it has been shown worldwide that if someone is bent on creating mayhem and destruction

they find ways to do so.

Hopefully it will never come to this , but at Houston Texans NFL games (73,000)and other events there at NRG Stadium, , a clear bag policy is in effect.

They also have scanners to swipe you , so it's not a physical search. I like the clear bag policy. No handbags of any kind allowed. Nobody complains, and it is working fine. I've never liked being searched. A few years ago I was going through O'Hare Airport in Chicago on my way to Ireland, and a pregnant woman , who looked like she was due any day , was being patted down to the point that she was almost being groped. She had 2 small children with her as well. It was embarrassing to see , and of course you can't say anything to the TSA or they will arrest you for any reason. No one should be treated like that, even though I'm all for the safety of the public. Way over the top.
