Matchday Thread: Port Vale v Millwall

The other issue is up top. Paterson works hard and took his goal well on Saturday but will have to knock in plenty of goals to overcome the fact he is quite limited as a sole target man. Cecilia looks like he may have the attributes to be some form of target man with a fair bit of bedding in time however for now Forrester by far looks the best bet..... UNLESS... we change to 4-4-2.

4-4-2 wouldn't accomodate the likes of Amoros but it would allow Foley to play deeper where is more effective and also give Jones the chance to play up front where he looks far more dangerous. It would also give more support to Paterson for now. Whether 4-4-2 is the way to go with the style of football we are playing is a tough call but there are a lot of options and I'm not quite sure Bruno knows his best eleven yet.

I think that's a very interesting debate. I wonder if it's too much of a risk to switch formation now but I wonder if the game against Mansfield in the Football League Trophy would be a good time to test it out?

If Forrester is not fit, I'd love to see 442 with a "big and small" combination of Cicilia and Jones with Shalaj and Thomas on the wings for the Mansfield game.

However, for these two home league games I suspect we'll be seeing three upfront with the option (as Vale did against Gills) of making it two upfront if we are chasing a win late on...

Hope I'm proved wrong but that starting 11 worries me a little. We look so much stronger with Thomas and Forrester in the side.

I'd also have Amoros in for Tavares personally.

Agree with that but this is what competition for places is all about, any player coming into the team knows he's got to grab his chance that can only be a good thing. Important match tonight will determine the crowd come Saturday.
