Matchday Thread: Port Vale v Millwall

Leaked 6 goals in losing to Southend and Rochdale, neither of whom are pulling up any trees so far this season.

Lets hope they continue in the same vein

Millwall fans are saying they have a small squad with young players so anything can happen I suppose.

Need to get back to winning ways after Saturday. Unfortunately, the laws of football means that our 100% record will not last much longer. Millwall looked a good team last season but have been inconsistent thus far. They have their main goal threats of Gregory and Morisson back playing together and so will pose a threat.

If Forrester is not fit, I'd give Cecilia a chance as he appears to have changed the momentum of the game having come off the bench. I'd also be tempted to replace Tavares with Amoros as he's had 3 or 4 poor games in a row now. I hope Foley is fit as he adds energy and can up the tempo of the game.

I've got a bad feeling about this one but a return of say 4 points out of our 2 home games would be excellent.

tough game = would be good to win but draw wouldnt be a disaster

( also important that Coventry win on Wednesday because if they haven't won before they visit Vale on Saturday we know with our usual generosity to teams on a bad run you can put your house on us helping them out  )

I am unsure whether to start Tavares tomorrow night,i actually think we have played better in games when he has been subbed, maybe start Amoros instead and i know he scored Saturday but i think Cicillia now deserves another chance up top,so we could go

.............JONES..........................................THOMAS........

A lot depends on the fitness of Thomas and Foley. If they are fit go with the same again but replacing Tavares who has been poor for a couple of games now with Amoros and Foley for Pereira. If Thomas isn't fit then a straight swap for Shalaj will do.

The thing at the moment is we are incredibly inconsistent and I'm sure that will come with game time but there are some glaring issues in the side.

Midfield isn't right. Tavares is obviously talented but lacks pace to his game. He slows it down too much and offers little off the ball. Foley is a great driving force but lacks a bit of a cutting edge in behind the front man. Perhaps Pereira could do this given time but it's early doors for him. Amoros is a very exciting player but due to his knee issues obviously has to be a bit protected. So essentially we have Amoros, Foley, Grant and Pereira to try and fit into a system that doesn't really want to accomodate them.

The other issue is up top. Paterson works hard and took his goal well on Saturday but will have to knock in plenty of goals to overcome the fact he is quite limited as a sole target man. Cecilia looks like he may have the attributes to be some form of target man with a fair bit of bedding in time however for now Forrester by far looks the best bet..... UNLESS... we change to 4-4-2.

4-4-2 wouldn't accomodate the likes of Amoros but it would allow Foley to play deeper where is more effective and also give Jones the chance to play up front where he looks far more dangerous. It would also give more support to Paterson for now. Whether 4-4-2 is the way to go with the style of football we are playing is a tough call but there are a lot of options and I'm not quite sure Bruno knows his best eleven yet.
