Home Attendances

I think I said at the time of the v2001 protests that regardless of the moral high ground the protests were affecting attendances. I know a couple of St holders who stopped going then and haven't returned. It is easy to lose customers and much harder to get them back.

They were back for Northampton and Burton a few seasons ago...

Oh, I'll be there Tuesday as I won't be working.

History shows our crowds are about right this season , times have changed so I think we are doing ok, I remember being in this division in the 70s and I would say our crowds are better now, we were never going top 5000 with the teams we have played so far . Coventry was the one I expected a decent crowd , I am sure if we get a couple of ok results before that we will get over 5000 home fans but don't expect Coventry bring many as they have had a poor start. You can bet this discussion will come up again next season and beyond as it as for the past season after season ,

As I posted last week, I know of several that work for the sentinel who won't go because of the sentinel ban. I believe, I could be wrong, it's because Smurf's wants Baggers to pay for his ticket, so to gain £23 he's loosing 10 times that because of around 10 sentinel workers are staying away.

Well to those ten sentinel workers i have no time for you at all if you are vale supporters grow up the sentinel have always put stoke city first in this city because they are the bigger club.So to take there argument all vale fans and there relations should stop buying the sentinel then these ten could lose there jobs . To my mind you are not vale fans or you would not harm the club by not attending.Like i have said before i have been going vale ever since my father lifted me over the turnstiles in 1954 i have seen the the good bad and very bad days up the vale, but one thing that i have never done is give up on them never will it is ingrained in my heart and my families heart forever. For the last forty years of my working life i did shift work and worked most saturdays but my love was so much that i still bought a season ticket even though i could not attend a lot of the games. All i can say to anybody its easy to find an excuse for not going i have heard them all from so called vale fans all through the years but if you are truely vale get yourself up there and support this great club of ours.

I think it's down to a number of things. Some people fell out of love with the Vale during the V2001 era. Some have been put off by the banal football on the whole we have watched over the past few seasons. Some have economically fallen foul of watching the Mighty Whites due to the recession and have not got back into the habit. Some have committed the cardinal sin of going to see Premiership football at the Sh.t. Others are on the verge of coming along following a positive home result only to step back from doing so when we fail to deliver at the next away game. Get a run of victories together and people will return. When the crowds come back continue to deliver, which we have palpably failed to do in the past.

Last season the arm chair fans turned up in numbers for the Burton and Walsall game !! Enough said on that.

We have a home hardcore support on 4500 and an away crew of about 12% of that figure. You can hardly say away support visiting Vale is helping, but I am a realist of 44 years following our Town club, and if we continue to improve so will the gates bit at a time.

let's be realistic, if we were in the championship / premiership we'd have at least 10.000 of our own supporters there week in week out, a good example is wigan climbing up the league's, they gained popularity and interest and attracted fans, same would be for us if we got into the championship, but it's no good not going to games coz smurf's branded the clubs fans as racist and thugs, you no your not a racist or a thug so get over it and get down to vale, excuses are poor when you can actually attend!

I think social factors do matter. So many young people had to leave the area to get good jobs. I'm one of them, I still get to maybe 6-8 home games but distance matters.

Another reason is that retail jobs which are now the biggest employers don't generally allow consistent Saturday attendance.

Also there is a much larger ethnic minority population that simply does not want to go to see a league 1 football team. In short there is a smaller available active audience.

I can see us avarage about 7000 for the last third of the season, if we are pushing for promotion. We had 12.000 in single matches in league two. But struggeling to establish in the Championship. We will be down to 5000.
Even in the Rudge era there was only a hard core of 6k for the likes of Oxford etc, however more for the bigger clubs who also brought a few thousand, but I don't think we have ever averaged 10k since the 50/60s. A great cup run could boost our league attendances, but they do not happen very often, but we live in hope.

Retail work is low pay...so £22 is a large portion of a retail pay packet.

10k Vale fans in the Championship? Really? The only time ive ever seen Vale have 10k Vale fans in a league game is when we've played Stoke, the 2 play off games in 1989 and the Northampton game in our promotion season.

so your telling me if we were doing well in the championship, top four for example we wouldnt get 10,000, if not, we'd be close, there's a lot of stay away fan's for the simple 'cba' reason 'smurf said this and that, you all no it's true and just dont like it being said.
