Burton A 2 Port Vale 0 POST MATCH COMMENTS

Just got back, great day out in Burton before and after, shame we decided to go the game.

 

It was a truly shocking performance, even before going down to 10 men, we went for a point and got exactly what we deserved. How Page can defend that performance I really don't know, the comment they gave me everything, really, I made more of an effort getting to the game than Louis Dodds, that was one of the worst performances by a Vale player for a long time. When we plays teams with 10 men, they still have a goal threat, we had nothing at all.

 

Burton were a really poor team, it goes to show how poor a league it really is, they have scored 15 goals in 15 games and are third in the league.

 

The time has come for Norman to act now before it is too late, attendances are falling and it is no surprise, people will not pay hard earned money to watch rubbish. That is over £100 spent on Tuesday and today with nothing to show but 2 performances that reminded me of Micky Adams last couple of games.

1.Uche should have been subbed at first booking he was an accident waiting to happen.

2.Should have gone five in midfield with 10 men Grant O' Connor and Foley must have the ability to breach the Burton midfield/defence at least once hoofing long balls up to Daniel gained nothing apart from a bombardment of crosses from Burton into the Vale box and despite their heroics the inevitable happened.

3. Vale had nine players in reality Dodds was his usual "nowhere to be seen" however he has only had 7 years to cement his place/learn his trade.( I will concede he has one good game in 10/20)

4. What was the point of last minute substitutions?

5. Most worrying after listening to 40 minutes of Stoke moaners on RS the Page interview was worth waiting for. Depressing lacklustre etc. Does this man realise what he is doing? Is he bothered? Is he worried?

 

Still we go again (but for how long Norman?).

I think the squads lack of depth was evident as we didnt make a substitution until around 80 minutes, which was 50 minutes with 10 men! We just dont have the tools to change games. Burton were trying different things and they made all 3 of their substitutions. However they were still extremely poor, i cant believe where they are in the league.

 

The result flattered Burton, although we were never going score with 11 or 10 men. Uche was very poor before he was sent off. I cant judge JJ on his 10 minutes in the circumstances.

It was quite staggering how Page had absolutely no idea what to do when down to ten men. How many times have teams been to Vale Park, been down to ten men and have managed to get a result? A good manager reacts, a poor manager does nothing.

That was one woeful, clueless, not one fringe player that can come into the side and change thing's. I have been a massive fan of Page but I'm getting a bit peed off with his negativity. Old Sage was bob on about the Pontiff, we are sadly missing Tom's workmanship,goals and most of all his desire and love of wearing the Vale shirt.

Page continually states "the boys gave me everything". Well I'm sorry, but I take that as a given. They are professional athletes for goodness sake and if they haven't got that competitive streak then they shouldn't be at the club. What they dont have is intelligence (particularly in Uche's case) or tactical nous to deal with changing situations in games. Yes, it might be argued that they didn't breakthrough us when it was 11 v 10, but our inability to exploit situations, slow the game down, have any sort of outlet to buy time and take the pressure off clearly cost us in the end. This is down to the coach to instill and for leaders to carry out on the pitch. You could guarantee if this was a Graham Westley team for example, our game management - some might call it time wasting or feigning injuries etc - would have been so much better.

One thing that has really annoyed me is how page always suggests he is a manager who will give youth a chance. Yet Streete who has been solid with Duffy gets dropped and then Llyod who had his first decent game for us gets immediately dropped.

I didn't go the game so I make no comment on the overall performance. I've seen the highlights though and I'm not convinced Uche dived. Yes there was minimal contact but he got straight up. It appeared to me that he stumbled or lost his balance and fell. A dive? No, he got straight back up and I don't believe that he's the type of player that would con the referee.

 

A dive has to be a deliberate attempt to con the referee. No chance that was in my opinion.
