Purkiss was MotM - a second quality performance from him, and defensively as a whole we were very good again across the whole back four and Grant in front of them.

Surprised how poor Burnley were, considering they only made 4 changes from their opening game, but that's taking nothing away from the passing football that Vale played which made us much the better side and fully deserve the win, even if we still didn't create too many chances.

I've been critical of Page, mainly due to the mental retained list, but I have to say, that is one of the best football matches I've seen at Vale Park in a long, long time. I was very impressed and hope today was the first of many slices of humble Page pie I have to eat. We kept the ball well, had the majority of possession and very few passes went awol. One criticism is that we possibly tried to walk the ball into the net at times, but if this is the style of football we are going to play then I'm happy.

I thought Purkiss was MoM tonight, absolute quality in everything he did. Duffy and Dickinson look much improved on last season too. I like Grant, laid back and always seems to have time on the ball even with a couple of men on him. Andoh, possibly didn't use his pace as much as he could have, but the amount of tracking back he did...and for a small lad, he got stuck in and wasn't pushed off the ball. I also like the AJ/Dodds combination and that would be my preferred numbers 9/10. Moore showed glimpses of what he could do and a nice little cameo from Kelly.

Like I've said, tonight was cheese to the last couple of years of chalk and we actually played football. Notwithstanding the result, I would have walked away happy with what I saw and certainly worth the £30 to watch from the directors box.

Well what a refreshing change to see us all enjoying a positive start to the season.Tonight was excellent and it was a massive win against a good footballing team who have just come down from the Premier League.Even their manager and fans forum have agreed the better team won.If we can sort out a finisher at the club we could be in for one hell of a season.I agree with all the comments about the football that Vale have played tonight and at Crewe,as it is way better than anything we have witnessed for a good while .Onwards and upwards now, well done to all concerned!!!

57% possession tonight! Things are looking up!

Happy for Smurf and what he's helping to build! Great crowd as well! 4.6k on a Tuesday in the cup!

Just got home, due to work and financial commitments I don't get chance to get up Vale Park as often as I would like, my last game was the home defeat by Swindon..... What can I say..... The only resemblance between that team and tonight's was the shirt sponsor.....! Really impressed with what Rob Page and Smurf have managed to achieve, Purkiss looks a class act and the young lad Andoh was tearing them apart down left, we looked comfortable against a strong Burnley side.... It is early days but we are looking like a good solid team, well done to Rob and his team and thank you Mr. Smurfwaite.

I didn't think Burnley were bad - in fact their two centre halves were very solid and we certainly won't play against those 2 week in week out in L1 - but I just don't think we allowed them time to play and we kept the ball, even it if meant going back to Alnwick. At the risk of going overboard, I think we have the makings of a really useful side and for all the stick me and numerous others dished out last year, I think Page and Norm have boxed clever in pre-season, assuming of course all these new signings have been made within budget.....
