Positive statement by Page :). Lets give this man a chance to shine and show us what he can do with his own backroom staff this season and see where we are near the end of season. It is going to be a exciting summer. Interesting to see who he brings in such as new players and new backroom staff. I wonder who this assistant coach/first team coach could be. We will find out at the end of the week apparently :). Can't wait for next season :).

Cant argue with what he says imo and hopefully as he says they can change and provide football and performances that will please fans

Agreed.

I wonder if he's issued that because of the negativity on some of the threads on here of late?

It would be unfortunate if that was the case as we're all supposed to be Vale fans, believe it or not.

My view is that if this isn't the time for massive rebuilding then it'll never be.

What does massive rebuilding actually mean?

I agree with Rob F's article about the winning clubs at the moment are those with a long term plan and a style of play, the opposite is that generally clubs in trouble are those with rapid turnover of playing staff, frequent change of owner and manager. clubs that have spent recklessly. Rob page should be given a chance based on last season, it would be a risk whomever takes the reigns at Vale. Page has said he is looking for 4-5 quality players to go straight into the first team, Smurf has pledged the same budget as last year but has intimated, reading between the lines, that if the right player comes available then funds will be available, eg he's talking to Palace about Ryan Innis.

If Vale fans want a high chance of Lge2 football next year lets change the manager and even the owner, have wholesale changes to the playing staff rather than the balanced course plotted at the moment. Give Smurf and Rob Page a chance and let see what the club and squad look like in July.

Needless to say we are relieved to have stayed up and heartened by the way in which the players fought to achieve that – they didn’t buckle under extreme pressure during the final fixtures.

Yea that final day performance was exceptional.

The retained list, contract offers and declared strategy are reasonable on paper. But the budget must be sufficient to attract and retain the players needed to push up the league. It's too early to judge whether Page's approach backed by the chairman will work. I do think having Byron Moore fit and available would help a lot.

Moore is a class act.

The only thing that stopped him from going higher at Crewe was a bit of inconsistency, including his lack of goals. Or that's what a scout once told me.

His movement, first touch and ability on the ball are all very good and it will be like having a new player if we can get him fit and firing on all cylinders next season.
