Worst Vale Defence Ever?

Bob Delgado was actually an android robot whose battery switched to 10 per cent power when he was transferred to Vale and muffled laughter could be heard from the direction of Chester as they pocketed the £30k fee, quite a tidy sum at that time.

Kevin Steggles was certainly no worse than 30 or 40 other defenders since, notably Slater, a non-league player performing as such, and some of the mid-2000 defenders.

I honestly don't think the current defenders are individually that bad, but any defence needs an organiser, we found one with Inniss, previously with players like Pilkington and Walsh when he wasn't injured, as the current mob lack positional sense, leadership and motivation rather than skill.

Sadly, we will never see a player like John Nicholson again, although I was quite young when he played, his leadership and motivational skills combined with his bravery, pride and awareness meant that even with any 3 of our current defenders around him, we would instantly halve our goals conceded if he were there to play in the team today.

Along with the also sadly missed Tommy Mc, my favourite player of all time.

Agree. They have all had enough good games to show that they are not complete dullards, but as a unit they do not seem to take responsibility for their own game and each others.

What a guy he was! My favourite player in years along with Danny Sonner and Mark Goodlad.

Stockley was his awful always apologising to the fans for his terrible passing and Sonner thought he was better than he was, tried it on with me when I reffed him down on the south coast and I made him look a bit dim.

Agree in Goodlad, up there with Neal for the best keeper in my life time.

The fact that this pathetic defence vastly improved when a 19 years old inexperienced on load defender ,was involved says it all

Ryan Inniss may have been on loan, only 19 and according to you "inexperienced" but he showed more nous and understanding of how to defend than any of the others have done all season. Hope we can get him back!
