MOTD complaint?

I would like to make an official complaint about the double standards demonstrated by Mark Hughes in his interview after the game. If, as he claimed, Moses was entitled go down because Angel had brushed his arm against him, then why on earth was he complaining that penalty was given when Shawcross threw Bony to the floor? One was a definite penalty but he said it shouldn't have been given because everyone does it and the other was a very debateable penalty which he said should have been given because ..... everyone has a right to go down if they're touched!

The Shawcross issue is interesting. It looked like the ref spoke to him before the corner came over yet Shawcross, in clear view of the ref, committed the foul. It was a foul. There is no doubt about it. Often similar fouls in the box are not given because in crowded areas they are not seen. Often refs let them go when they shouldn't. The argument that if you give a pen for what Shawcross did then there would be ten a game is simply garbage. If all refs gave what they saw in the box it would reduce the sort of pushing and pulling that goes on at a stroke. No manager would pick a defender who gives away three or four pens a match. It would simply stop or at the very least, drastically reduce.

Hughes, by the way, is not the only manager who does this - they're all at it and they all ought to be ashamed of themselves when they do it.

It's a well known fact among Stoke fans themselves that Shawcross always grabs his man at corners and free-kicks. It's obvious every time you see him play.

It's also true that some other defenders do it but I haven't seen anyone do it as blatantly as he does. But he's got away with it for 3-4 seasons now and so just carries on.

His defence is ridiculous! The attacker does it to me, so I do it to him, it's 50:50, etc. etc. There is no reason for an attacker to do this - he simply wants the freedom to get a run at the ball off the corner. It's the defenders who want to prevent attackers doing this and so they wrap their arms around players so that they can't move. The forwards then try and shake them off and push their arms towards them but it's patently obvious who is to blame.

He's been doing it for years and it's not even subtle.

(I've been quite impressed with Hughes' post match honest comments - until Saturday!)

It was a penalty and Shawcross was indeed silly BUT

Skrtel Kompany and John Terry are masters at it but hey ho the rules have now been set so expect to see 5 penalties per game in every league from now on

They don't do what shawcross does of corners. Every corner he has his arms around the attacker. This is the reason he never gets a look in at England.

See my post above, Wez. If refs did give these more consistently it would cut it out because players wouldn't risk it. Hughes has said that he is annoyed about the media concentration on Shawcross. He says he knows the cameras are looking at him for these antics every time Stoke concede a corner. So why in the name of basic common sense has he not told Shawcross to cut it out? Why has he waited for the inevitable to happen and then had a whinge about it when he could so easily have told the player not to be so blatantly obvious in fouling strikers? Surely that's very poor management?
