Only got vague memories of it (as I was about 7) but Greenhoff v York in 1982, I think.

3 Jan 1983 .Was a Monday night game and it was a brilliant goal.I took a mate along who supports Wolves and we were in the Paddock inline with Greenhoff when he volleyed it. He still mentions it now.

I would go with Ron Futcher against Cardiff in 1988.

 

Robbie Earle had just scored a blinder and I am convinced that from the Lorne St I saw Futcher have a word with him as if to say "that wasn't all that..."

 

Earle's was a long-range drive. So about two mins after the re-start, Futcher scores from further out and on the volley.

 

To me it had everything - arrogance, one upmanship, a touch of humour, skill and drama...

I've had a look and we only played Blackpool in 87-88 and 88-89 during that time span (and Earle didn't score against them).

 

Could it be that you've got the opposition wrong?

I'm sure i can recall a brillinat volley by Foyle against (I think) Tranmere. I think someone (Naylor?) crossed form near the halfway line and the Tin man vaolleyed it form just inside the area

No, you're right as I remember that one. Guppy put the ball in and Foyle hit a superb volley into the bottom corner.

 

If I remember rightly that was a Sunday game and possibly on TV.
