Best goal you have seen at VP (video too if poss)

Mine is John Woodward v Blackburn Rovers in 1973 , with a powerful shot from 20 yards out that hit the underside of the bar and went in before the keeper even saw it. My first Vale home game as well, although I haven't been to that many ,to be honest.

One of my favorites is Ray Walkers against Crystal Palace in the fa cup. Extra time with fog closing in .

 

That sticks in my mind as well, didnt that lead to the "And Rudgey's threw his cap in air and I almost caught it" quote from George Andrews

 

Didnt we then draw Everton the next round? That tie sticks in my mind for 2 reasons, the first one going absolutely mental as the ball looped over the keeper in injury time to make it 2-2 @ Goodison Park

 

The replay at VP was then one of the most one sided performance I think I've ever witnessed by a Vale team, we totally dominated the game and our attacking play (Guppy/Mcarthy/Naylor/Foyle?) was the best I've seen by us

 

The winner (was it Mcarthy or Naylor?) was also one of the best goals I've seen at VP, probably because of the build up play. To quote George Andrews again "and Macarthy strikes, just like jaws"

Given the opponents and the occasion it has to be Ian Bogie's 12 second winner against Sjoke on 12th March 1996 in front of nearly 17,000 fans.

 

If memory serves me right I don't think Sjoke had conceded a goal for 5/6 games beforehand & they won the toss and they switched ends so we kicked towards the Bycars.

 

We kicked off & I think we sold them a couple of dummies (not counting the 11 in red & white strips) before Bogie took one touch and blasted the ball in off the post without Sjoke even touching the ball.

 

A great goal on a great night.

The two that Santa mentioned (v Cambridge in 93/94) get my vote.

From memory, Nicky Cross and Paul Kerr were the scorers.

Two fantastic moves where the ball never left the turf and was passed into the net - the best examples of our style of play at that time.

The game finished 2-2 and, in contrast, Cambridge's goals were a thumping header from the lump that was Liam Daish and a ridiculous long range punt from Claridge that caught Mussy off his line.

 

My other favourites were two Simon Mills goals.

The first was v Plymouth in a 3-0 win in 1988; a chip from the angle of the box.

The other was a long range effort v Bristol City around 1990-91 from about 35 yards out that seemed to take an age to reach the net.

That first game was a true rollercoaster, from feeling as low as I could be when Mussie flapped and gave Ferguson a tap in to ending up 8 rows further forward when Bogie deflected over Southall.

 

It was indeed McCarthy with the winner in the replay from a peach of a cross from Guppy.

Robbie earles headed winner against bristol rovers to seal promotion will also take some beating,

 

mills "golf swing" corner, beckfords deft flick then earle buried it.

 

I dont know how many times that move got us a goal that season, it was a few, but that one was special.
