JA - Do you mean they are travelling via Libya or are from Libya cos the majority seeking asylum/fleeing violence are not from Libya

For ****s sake - that quote could not be clearer English - it says they leave to get to the EU FROM LIBYA.

It does NOT say they were born in Libya,

Youre either a complete windup moron or taking the p7ss - or both. In either case your credibility is zero.

further downnyou also mention Albania - the same country whose people th us and nato supported by bombing innocent civilians in Serbia iover the failed criminal Albanian state of Kosovo - which is emptying fast, THAT is where the Albanians are coming from.

Does anyone have the hard, cold facts about the benefits they get in France compared to what they'd get here? An easy system is surely to reform our benefits so that they get exactly the same as France, giving them no reason to want to come over.

I agree with what you are saying as far as it goes, but clearly there are other reasons they wan to come to the UK as first choice.

Firstly, many speak some English, some are fluent - and very few speak French. You can imagine the difference this makes.

Secondly, there are communities and connections here they can be absorbed into in many cases- France has some too, but from different countries and not the ones affected as badly by wars etc.

Thirdly, despite much of what is written here and in the trash tabloids, I honestly believe British people are more tolerant - or at least a goodly proportion of them are (cue a J Aitch post asking my source like a clockwork parrot ).

The benefits are really not that different under recent law changes - Britain also has too good a reputation as a free and genuine country (land of opportunity - a bit like US was before people realised the truth) , don't worry it wont last long under this Cameron government.

Striking ferry workers burn tyres on the motorway while the French police stand and watch?

Which is more important - people's lives in danger, or the fact that UKIP faceache Dr Julia Reid says 'we had her holiday ruined'- oh how ghastly, and I bet she cant even claim everything on expenses.

It isn't very often I agree with Harriet Harmon but on this occasion.

"It is wrong for UK businesses and families to face these costs given border security failures in France".

"Your discussions with the French government should therefore include a request for compensation backed up by any diplomatic pressure that may become necessary.Compensation should cover all losses."

You forgot that they don't need an ID card in the UK.

Their life is in such danger that they have to come to Britain for safety and not one of the other 20 odd European countries they have to pass through to get here ???? Stop living in the dream world.

Many fleeing migrants are in neighbouring countries such as Jordan. In a country of that size the number of migrants can become a large percentage of the total population. I read it that these migrants want to go home when they can or to settle locally in region. Our aid should give maximum temporary and permanent help to these people.

To me the ones in Calais may be genuine Asylum seekers by the international rules but they are also presenting as economic migrants seeking to come here for a better life and to rely on UK public funds at least to start with. The UK government recognises that thousands could become millions, that we already have immigration higher than resources can cope with, the UK needs to maintain excellent diplomatic relations with other EU countries and particularly France and that with a large part of the UK population being multi ethnic a UKIP type racist response would cost them the next general election.

The tunnel entrance is in French jurisdiction. They don't want these immigrants for exactly the same reasons. So the approach of both governments is to allow these immigrants to pointlessly roam without any rights or benefits for ever. At 5k to 10k that is a viable strategy provided the tunnel is properly protected and it isn't presently. If that number becomes 100k then the logistics of the situation changes.

ID cards may well end up being introduced.

An ID card already exists to a considerable degree. On employing anyone an employer has to perform checks on eligibility to work in the UK under Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. The guidance is here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/311668/Code_of_practice_on_preventing_illegal_working.pdf The primary document to be checked is a passport. The passport is in effect an ID card.

It's about time someone asked the question 'Why all they all so desperate to leave their home countries?' The answer, in my view, is a lot to do with these countries being ravaged by fighting and atrocities fueled by the West and other super powers handing out weapons like confetti.

IS, so called, got most of their weapons because they were left behind by a retreating (fleeing) Iraqui army. That 'Army' got their weapons gifted to them by America and Britain, after they had got rid of Sadamm without a clue as to what they would do afterwards, and without realising what they were setting off. The same is happening in Syria and Lybia.

The American's gun lobby's response to shootings in schools by lone gunmen is to arm the teachers! ***!! Now they're talking about needing weapons in cinemas. It'll be Preachers who will have to be holding semi-automatic weapons next, whilst giving a sermon!

The more weapons you give out the more idiots and thugs will get hold of them and use them. So the more other citizens in these countries will want to get out to somewhere safe.

It's time for one world leader to stand up and call a halt, but unfortunately I don't think there's one that has got both the brains and the balls to do it!

A big problem here is that Cameron and his profiteering lackeys turn a blind eye to the 'black economy' and tens, if not hundreds of thousands work for illegally low wages and the checks are not done.

Ed Milliband was ignored when he said this was the way to tackle this - economic migrants would not want to come if there were less jobs for them, and there would be less jobs for them if low-life employers had to pay the minimum wage.

Every workplace needs to be checked carefully within the next few months - but this is not possible thanks to Cameron encouraging this scenario which boosts GDP and profits.

Britain is becoming a stinking society where all that matters is greed, and nothing will change under this government, which wants its friends to make bigger profits as the fabric of our society - the NHS, transport systems and all public services are ruthlessy cut and rot away. Health and food regulations will wither and die, and some will call it 'freedom' until they need those services which will only be available to the richest.

Completely correct - and geography/distance means the US has no migrants from the countries they have ravaged coming to their shores.
