Michael O' Connor on Trial

Agreed. I'm guessing Adams though he could offer more when he came on trial (which doesn't bode well for the communication between Adams and Smurf).

Personally I though we would have offered him approx 2.5k. Whether he would have accepted that is a different matter.

I agree, I think Adams thought we could get him, and 2.5k probably would have been enough.

Rumours of his wages at Rotherham suggest that a 60% cut would still have put him on very decent money at Vale - probably more than the majority fo the squad.

I would be pretty sure that no other club in our league will pay him any where near the money he was on at Rotherham.

I wonder how much Rotherham were paying him? Until you know that it's hard to put any perspective on what we offered him.

Well if he's got a better offer elsewhere then good luck to him, has he signed for Doncaster?

Rotherham fans are adamant its under 4k a week.

maybe we should make offers to 30 or so ex prem players , well those who are unemployed anyway and offer them a grand a week . we should get 3 or four then surely ? with them being unemployed they will work for that won't they ?

Yes lets make daft comparisons, to people who have been paid in excess of 10k a week and dont need to work.

I know but what is the point in offering a wage with such a big reduction. He will get better offers from other clubs, as I said a reduction is more than fair but I dont see any point in wasting time offering such a big wage reduction, would have been much better off looking at targets that we could realistically sign.

His current wage is £0 we offered him a 40% pay increase;)

Exactly Jean. I'm not sure what some people expect. I am sure we offered as much as we could possibly afford. He hasn't accepted, time for people to pick there dummies up off the floor...

TBH we were so far apart I'm surprised we even managed to get him round the table to begin with.

MA must have had a reasonable idea of his salary expectations, he must also have had an idea of how much budget he had left to play with... unless the rug got pulled last minute like when we tried to sign Simon Heslop in 2008.
