You're more excited than me at their prospects, although Marshall has looked good he'll be inconsistent like JMW....which is fine but to lose a captain and good player to no doubt be replaced by someone we can basically just afford will see us weaker.

 

 

I do believe Marshall will be more consistent than JMW. Remember when Richards left and everyone panicked about where the goals were going come from? Then Popey steps up and bangs in 30+ goals. Lofty came from nothing and so can many,any other players.

Yes 2 quality players in Marshall and Moore. Proven at league 1. McGivern and Daniel may turn out to be quality. Yes we have lost Loft and he will be hard to replace. But as we stand we have 2 quality wingers in the team. Last season Loft was pushed out wide alot, where, in all fairness ain't his best position so maybe we won't miss him as much as some think.

 

So Marshall is proven at League One by making 6 starts and 8 sub apps for Coventry? Think you need a bit more than that to be 'proven'.

The problem is though that the squad is incomplete. We have gaping holes in the first team and we are just over three weeks away from the season start. I'm not normally a pessimist, but we are in trouble unless something is done quickly.

 

Now we are virtually back to square one looking at players. Vidal, Guyonet not offered contracts and it looks like O'Connor will not sign. We're running out of time and this is starting to look like there will be a desperate scramble for players in August.

That was in league 2, and we didnt have huge gaps in the starting line up as we do now. Loft may have come from nothing but who have we signed that can do that? There is only Daniel who is relatively unknown and he probably wont start. Like it or not we are still very very short on players, Id still want another 6, 3 first team and 3 squad players / loans but that wont happen. I can see us not naming a full bench for the first match.

Is pope proven? Or williamson? Just wwondering what the criteria is for being proven. Is it appearances? If so how amny make you proven 39 ? 40? Or is it based on some other measurable attribute?

Maybe but that's not the point. Who else are we looking at? Only Jennings is left from the trialists, isn't it?

Maybe, but that isn't enough games to be proven. Anyone can have a golden few games, some do well on a months loan then are hopeless when signed permanently. If he has a good season with 30 odd appearances for us, then that is proven.

Pope is proven at this level, and the level below, he was good last season and scored a respectable amount of goals. IMO you cant call a player proven at a certain level when they have only played 14 games and no williamson isnt proven at this level or the level below.

What is it with trialists? Moore, Daniel, Marshall and McGivern weren't trialists. Just because there is only one trialist left that doesn't mean he is the only player we are looking at.
