Griff counts as another one who ought not have come back as he's even worse now. I'm with Tosh and also I'd never have ex players as managers either .

 

I think Griff and the club would disagree. When he came back on loan they achieved their primary objection of securing promotion. He then signed permanently as we achieve our primary objection of not getting relegated, in fact we do it wih flying colours and are never once involved in a relegation battle. Griff has played a lot of minutes this season and has been a bit part of our achievement. In sure both club and player would consider his return a big success.

How was he a major success? You can try and convince me I didn't see what I did see all you want, but the year we went down he was as bad as all the others you mentioned, bar three weeks at the end of the season.

 

He's the only Vale player I've seen go off on a stretcher, and get booed off by his own fans because he was that bad. That happened, I didn't imagine that.

 

Look at his goalscoring record, he was top scorer for us and our talisman for 4 years, if you put Pope, Andy Jones, Wilf Kirkham etc in the side that went down they wouldn't have faired any better.

 

I reckon Adams would have him back.

I feel that if we have any funds to secure another forward it ought to be spent on a younger player, one we can fit into Popey's style of play. Rico wasn't that effective as a duo with Tom and I see nothing that changes my mind that he's got anything but worse/slower than his "hey days" at Vale.;)

As for Rico, whilst I was a massive fan of him first time around, his time has been and gone. He's too old now and wouldn't add a great deal to our forward line. We have a target man. We need to be looking at strikers with pace. No for me.

If Rico was to come back then he would have to be 'second fiddle' to Popey who is our main target man. When the two played together last time it was the other way around which was a major mistake because Tom is far superior aerially while Rico is a good and skillfull on the deck and it could work playing him as a second striker who would feed off Popey.

Richards never got 16 goals in League 1. And never will. At best a League 2 player. Why do people want us to go back to someone who was a major part of our darkest years.

I'd much prefer someone like local lad Shaun Miller over Rico and who is currently on loan at the Shrews from Sheff.Utd.I reckon the 26 year old would match up well with Popey.

Totally agree we need to develop players and at the price we can get Hugill for he's a far better proposition surely. Richards was vital to the Vale when he was here but we have moved on and lets face it he never won a great deal in the air but held the ball up well like Pope. TBH I'm happy with the forwards we have providing we get some creative midfielders in. I'm sure Pope would have scored more with better service than he's had this season. A quick nippy forward ala Tony Naylor would serve us better.

Would welcome Rico back but only for the right money, and he is happy to be one of 4. Pope is the main man and if Rico was ok with that then yes deffo have him over tomlin.

i loved rico and in no way resent him for moving on - however i want vale to move forward and i can't see how an ageing marc richards returning would improve us really
