Is Staying Up Good Enough

Bit of a stupid question. The team will always try and get as many points as possible. It's not like they set a target of 5th from bottom and, with 2 games to go we're 7th from bottom will deliberately lose to hit out target. It's all about supporter expectation as opposed to a target for the team. What do we realistically expect from them? For me, survival (by however many points) is success. Next season it won't be but one step at a time.

Realism is required by all.

Staying in this Division will be acceptable (not preferable) this time in view of all the financial constraints on Smurf since he took over. We have actually moved up no end of gears in so many ways after administration and next season should be one we have big ambitions for.

Management need to look forward now though to see what we need to get somewhere. Planning is not one of Vale's best achievements in the past.

Your last 5 words are prophetic George. I have just posted my thoughts and then saw what you posted.

Against Oldham, Colchester and Bristol City we played dire and 1 points from 9 wasn't acceptable for me.

A win at the first two games would have us in 7th now and leave us more confident of not being involved in any mid table scramble away from the relegation zone.

Next 3 games - Peterborough (loss), Sheffield United (draw), Crawley (loss) is how I see it given the poor performances.

For this season I would say yes. League 1 football this year is like no other season thats ever took place in the 3rd tier of English football with the size of the big clubs like wolves, Sheff u and Coventry coupled with some smaller clubs that have been financial well backed so to compete in this league in a stable position gets the thumbs up from me

I suppose it is always difficult to assess your squad before playing at a different level and with our present squad it seems obvious that we are deficient in most areas, so therefore just staying up this year would be acceptable and then we can expect to move on next season.
