JM-W and Vincent got worse as the game went on. Both were out-muscled and knocked off their stride by stronger more determined opponents.

Maybe Dodds and Taylor might have offered us more. Dodds certainly would.

 

Why this vendetta against Shuker? He links the play well in the right formation and is a decent little player.

 

We only have ourselves to blame today. We spurned some chances and Neal made a blunder at the back. If you want to criticise someone today Neal is your man if you are that way inclined. Pope was also poor, Loft mediocre, as was Yates, but I don't expect those 3-4 will cop any blame.

 

We lost - a bit unluckily on the balance of play, but get over it and move on instead of looking for scapegoats all the time. These things happen.

 

The fans have favourites just like Micky.Shuker,Yates and Andrews can do nothing right whereas Neal,Burge and Pope apparently,can't do anything wrong?

I thought MA got the subs right. We created chance after chance following the substitutions and through a combination of good keeping, good last ditch clearances and the ball just refusing to drop to a Vale player from rebounds their goal survived. By the way Jones has got some shot in that left foot and his drive would have gone through a smaller keeper.

 

The subs made were embarrassing, even the Williamson one, sacrificing a goal scorer when we need a goal, we should have risked it and brought him on for Vincent.

I think Burge is a good player but when you have two in midfield and 2 out and out wingers then the two midfielders MUST release the ball early.

 

Half the time there was no one available to release the ball to !

 

Time & time again our defenders and midfield men were coming out with the ball screaming at anyone in front of them to show but we had too many hiding today, especially the wide men . You can't release it early when there's no one to release it to .

 

Burge & Loft do so much running to make up for the wide boys ever likely they're tired , Vincent & M-Williams must work a lot harder if we're going to break these teams down.

 

Interesting how there's not much mention of how well Duffy played today and how poor Yates was.

 

If anyone is looking for someone to criticise for not releasing the ball early then Yates is your man ,very poor today, looked almost scared each time he was on the ball and played it backwards more than forwards .

 

Too much panic on here , we are going to have more games like this to come , just need a break to go our way , nothing did today and the tension showed in the second half. Horrible teams like Morecombe will play like that at Vale Park and ride their luck, they certainly did today.

Highlight of the game for me was Burge's tackle from behind on the edge of our area in the first half, if he got that wrong he'd have been off but he got it spot on, best tackle I've seen for awhile and when a tackle is the highlight it shows we had an off day today!:D

Shuker is an attacking wide player or someone who plays just behind the strikers. He has been used in central midfield since coming to Port Vale and actually done very well getting us to the top of the league at the start of the season and since coming in to the team from the bench and showing good ball retention, creativity and most of all experience.

 

I am really fed up of fans actually booing him and other players - and I need a slap round the face myself for getting angry at Yates today.

Shuker used to be a wide player (and a good one) there is no chance he could play on the wing now.

PG - Morecambe were pushing up tight and there was loads of space behind them for balls over the top for the wingers to run on to.

 

We have plenty of pace up front but don't use it - just get the ball over the back line into those acres of free space and give Vincent and JMW the chance to show their pace.
