Supporters club committee

To be honest, I think there should have been more info about each post and anyone applying should have to speak to the supporters about why they should be on the committee and then fans vote. How can we vote people on who we have no idea who they are, why they would do a good job and what they bring experience wise.

Oh and as for people affiliated with a particular group, how do we know? There are about 10 people on here who know me, yet I protested and supported every group who was anti-board. So can I apply or not according to those who don't want people who backed a certain group?!

To return to the debate ...

I will not be standing for election but I will be as mouthy as ever in SUPPORTING those that do.

I really hope that what was achieved by the pro-active fans wanting change has shown every single fan what can be achieved if they get off their bums and work in a united way. Disagreement within committees is excellent it means that all avenues are being explored - I've always believed that after the 'argument' you go and have a pint with everyone particularly those that had different opinions (I bought a lot of pints 18 months ago and am still buying them!).

We all have a common aim and that is to do our very best to make Port Vale FC a better club and better for its fans. The only ones that I have no time for are those who criticise on here when hiding behind pseudonyms then when pm'd and invited to have a discussion in the open suddenly fail to reply.

It would be absolutely fantastic if there was competition for places on the SC committee and I would welcome anyone who has not been on the SC committee to give it a go.

I think all of us who have been on the SC committee at one time or another have said its a thankless task and at times it is, but it is also very rewarding to see that ideas and constructive comment that you personally have being put into action and producing results. We all spend trillions of hours on here debating this giving views on that but if you stay behind the keyboard then IMHO you have just spouted a load of hot air and achieved nothing. What personal satisfaction is there in that?

So I applaud 'cheeky' for stating he may well give it a go, don't be shy folks.

I don't believe any single person who was involved in B&G, SEO, NLV who still has any agenda other than what is best for the SC and the club.

Finally, rather than just have this thread talking about who is going to form the committee can we start to debate what exactly the SC should be responsible for and what projects should it be taking forward? Then those who are not going to be on the committee but who have professional backgrounds in say finance, legal etc can offer their support so the relevant project benefits from their expertise.

p.s. Nick, I'll pop round with the Genesis album mate no probs. The relevance of Trains and PVFC is simple ... 'bums on seats'

I hope that Cheeky does stand as he occasionally does talk sense, and with the amount of time he spends on trains, should have plenty of time on his hands. He would also represent the "middle-tier" of fans, who until 2001 had seen the majority of our success as a club. The problem as I see it, though, Andy Jones is that even now, you're talking of an agenda/debate on what the committee be responsible for. Leave this to the Chair to handle within committee and the owners, or get involved yourself.

Spot on.

Cav,

I would assume that the SC committee would be asking fans what projects it wants to take up.

Interesting one about organising away travel. Who actually does this at the minute? I know Joan takes the bookings but is it administered through the club, the vols group, or what?

In days of yore I was part of the Leek & District Travelling Valiants that organised the Exec Coach travel - is there room for something like this to be run again by the SC i.e. Superior Quality coaches at a premium price? or should all away travel be run by the SC, or none at all?

What is the obsession with the away travel? The people who organise it at the moment do a fine job, coaches arrive and take people to matches. They pick people up along the route if required to save them driving to Vale Park if the coach is going through their town anyway. The prices are reasonable and the service is relaiable. Why change something that isn't broken?

And that's why we don't need anyone with a prominent past related to Port Vale. People are right that its hard to get someone totally new, but that doesn't mean we need to look to the main leaders of the groups who drove Vale to its darkest days!

That's anyone attached to the old board and protest groups in prominent positions. If we want it to work then we new independent blood.

What is required are people with drive and the time available, experience is invaluable if properly applied, as are new comers maybe with fresh ideas. Mixtures will work better as long as there is respect, there is no need for old arguments, most people thought it was for the best at the time, as a shareholder I did. Time to move on, the owners are new to the Vale and need to communicate with the fans in order to move forward, but with avoiding pitfalls, a dynamic SC is the way.

Good post.

This thread certainly proves there are still lots of people who hold grudges and have different agenda's but it's time to forget the past and move on.The ambitions of the new owners should be matched by a vibrant SC which should act as a link between the fans and the club.Splinter groups within the club which are successful, should be allowed to carry on imo if they are acting in the best interests of the club.

Everyone is casting around for the "best" type of SC. Perhaps there isn't one.

I just googled Football Supporters Clubs and in 10 secs found this (bearing in mind that they're non-league) and it seem that they are making a ****** good job of it.

Perhaps we all forget the navel-gazing and recriminations, move on and acknowledge that with Mr Wildes at the helm, we're going places.

Fosse with common sense like yours you should be on committee. Particularly agree about always respecting each other.
Time I hope I have, but having watched the Vale since the Old Rec days energy is now short, and weekend 150 mile trips to the Vale are tiring. but the internet keeps me informed. The SC/committee use of EMails could help a lot.
