He was a good player for us…..probably past it. Ow but would have liked him to stay.

Had a fair few bad injuries in recent times including doing his ACL. I believe last year he was recovering from illness that took him out the game for a short time

I’d have predicted it, he was head and shoulders our best player when played in the correct position, I’m not surprised he’s done well. In fact, he was the only thing at Vale who was Championship ready.

Quote, "I’d have predicted it", sounds a bit "Hindsighty" to me, there were a lot of comments on  OVF about Tolaj's control/the ball bouncing off him last season (Not saying you made such a comment).

No doubt he is a very good player but to improve his return on goals scored to games played so much in a higher Lge has surprised me.

Don't think you read my answer though?

ie. he will have one.

I think you're still misunderstanding philpvfc question. He's not asking about him having a release clause to leave Plymouth, he's asking about a sell on clause for us, that we would get a proportion of if/ when he goes.

I think most could tell of his quality. Most were very upset about him leaving. Think it was obvious he would score goals at this level. Return on goals, you have to remember for us in league 2 he was played out of position for large parts of it, or not picked at all. Playing with better players, an attempt to get the ball forwards, more chances, more goals. Definitely a championship player imo.

For me Tolaj reflects the unpredictability of strikers in football, no doubt a very good player for Vale scoring 14 goals in 37 Lge 2 games (15 goals in a total of 42 games) in the promo season, 1 goal in 4 Lge games in the 2025/26 season in Lge 1.

Whereas for a mostly struggling Plymouth team it's 11 goals in 18 Lge 1 games and a total of 14 goals in 23 games overall.

When he went to Plymouth, I didn't anticipate his return on goals scored vs games played would be improved from at Vale (In Lge 2) and so good (In Lge 1), the only time he came close to his Plymouth return was in the National League for Aldershot but that's 2 levels lower than Lge 1.  When out on loan he didn't score at all although he didn't play many games.

There's a myriad of reasons why he's come good at Plymouth but who would have predicted it?  I'm ambivalent about Tolaj maintaining his goal scoring form, on one hand a % of any big fee would be nice but if his goals dried up, Plymouth would likely get sucked down Lge 1 but Tolaj's value may fall.

I guess the bottom line is for the last 2 1/2 seasons he's done what the 3 clubs bought him for and that's score goals at a good rate of games played.

It helps playing up front and in a 2 .. He didn't get that luxury at Vale until January and that's when he started finding the onion bag.

Ok…… I did predict him to do well , I’ve previously said he was our best player and told a Plymouth fan they’ve got a good one at a good price. I also said we need to get a quality striker in to replace him else we will struggle but we replaced him with a free transfer who hadn’t scored for over a year.

Yes - the EA Sports one - player's initials EA?

Update - yes - Luton Town winger Ethon Archer signed on loan.

Ethon Archer on loan, welcome to the madhouse.

Edited by Birches Head Fred

Looks like he(Archer) made his way up from non league initially. Did well at Cheltenham in league two last season and got the move to Luton but they loaned him straight back.

Apparently cost Luton £200k.

Seen him play, he’s rapid. Not sure the rest of his game is at this level but his pace alone will cause issues for defenders

Remember him being very good for Cheltenham. Think he caused us a fair few problems last season. Strengthens an area we are thin in. Like this move.
