I was surprised, for a centre back himself he recruited some dreadful defensive players in the summer outside of Humphries.

If anything I would have expected the wing backs to be more defensive and another CB brought in as well. Would have thought to be in for Ihiekwe based on the Moore connection but he went to Blackpool.

I don’t know why we don’t try and get Ennis who is a winger on loan at Fleetwood. Give him the ball and just let him keep putting the crosses into the box for the marauding Cole & Stockley, to launch themselves at.

I would be ringing Man Utd up and try to get them recall him and then like you say try and sign him on loan ourselves,he did impress me in the Fleetwood game

I think it’s too much of an ask now, we’re too far behind.

Respectfully disagree.

Next up, we have three winnable games -

Vale v Exeter
Vale v AFC Wimbledon
Orient v Vale

Take 6 points out of 9 and we are back in sight of safety.

Take 9 points out of 9 and we are well en route to the Great Escape.

It's still all to play for, with virtually half the season to go.

They are winnable I agree but I thought Saturday was as well. Too much of an ask for me, coupled with losing key players and adding nobody. We will need 4 other sides to be pretty horrific from now until the end of the season - it can happen, I just don’t think it will, we won’t score enough.

I think the fans will stick with vale till we are out of both cups even if the cup games are poorly supported there is one root to wembley still on and cash to come into the club

Feels like we are trying to talk ourselves into hoping more than anything, while we look around and see divisional rivals strengthen their squads. Going to be a very long couple of weeks to see if we do anything.

We need to strengthen the squad as we failed in the summer we are now.

My Luton fan friend told me he was very impressive against them. It was the second round of the fa cup and he actually scored a brace.

I think the best 'Great Escape' option is to sign some quality loan signings from Prem and Championship. We might be able to bring in a more experienced player from the Championship if we pay some of their wages (CB and/or CM). Hopefully we could bring in some quick wingers from the Premiership, probably naively thinking out of the box, but isn't it an interesting offer for a Premier League team - to send a prospect out on loan to a League 1 team in trouble? Character building and gives them an experience they can't get in an academy, that could take them to the next level.

I just can't see permanent signings coming at at the quality we'd need to get us out of this, because of our league position, uncertainty of next season (for both player and club), and the wages.

I know ppl have resigned themselves to relegation, the bookies gave us odds on to go down. A friend of mine said it would happen the day we sold Tolaj. We should make every game a cup game and go out all guns blazing.

Thats your view and you're entitled to it.  We have the players capable of doing the business; we just had a sh!te way of playing.  We're still not down yet

I think this is true

We do have players capable but you can’t keep losing and not scoring the way we have and then expect the group to turn it around.

1-11 the team should have been more than good enough but the insistence to play..and I still can’t believe as I write it to play G Hall, Curtis, Debrah and Hall at WB to maintain our 3 CB’s was incredible self harm.

The trouble with the squad, outside 1-11 they are largely L2 players and due to poor recruitment we have very few options to play with a back 4 with limited  midfield and attacking options.

Mathematically we aren’t down, mentally we are. Even with a few wins under our belt, somehow, the minute we lose the 1st goal heads will go. It’s going to take such a long time and a clear out to change that mentality “here we go again” when we concede. That mentality extends to the fans as well. We all feel it.

I honestly don’t think the club understands that.

I honestly don’t think fans appreciate the mental damage within the squad.

I dont think we do that anymore do we? when was the last experienced loan we had who was very good? we usually just sign Academy/u21 now
