I’m sure I saw comments like this last time in league 1.

And I was right last time aswell, making the same mistakes over and over.

You were saying the same thing all last season though as well

Hold your heads for now I say, at least for a couple of days. We are better than last time in L1 and a million miles better than last season in L2. Today wasn't great, admittedly, and we do need reinforcements up top, but on what we've shown so far we will be ok. Faal and Waine don't look up to it, but Brown looked good today. SOLID REINFORCEMENTS, Stockley back, keeping hold of our midfield, Brown getting more minutes and I believe we will survive. Up the new Darren Moore.

On on.

I agree with changing formation but DM doesn't seem to want to change.

He sounded more peed off with the goal conceded rather than our inept ability to convert chances.

I’m not sure a single striker is the answer to our issues tbh. Yes, we need a striker (arguably two) and where are the goals in the rest of the current team?

Stockley got what, 10? But then Curtis, Byers, Rico, Garrity all less than 5, I think. No meaningful contributions scoring wise from the current CB’s.

I really think we might need to look at a formation change to 4-3-3 as I just cannot see how we are going to be creative enough at the moment.

This is vaguely what I've been trying to touch on. I don't think you touch our midfield three, we tried just 2 in there and were predictably overrun.

We got one striker in Brown, and we'll have to work with that for the season.

So you're looking at other options to change personnel in the team. I'd probably go with a wide player with better crossing personally. And the LCB.

If we did as you say, another 2 strikers, it just looks silly and people will have to leave (send Faal back, get rid of Paton without him getting much of a chance so far this season? I don't see us shifting Curtis or Waine)

4-3-3 would be for me but I don't see that being in Moore's plans. He is more likely to go 343 / 541 IMO which is just going to be frustrating on the goals front still.

Big big work to do by end of play Monday and a lot of hard work for the coaching team from then on to get us wins.

So now some are into the snide digs at the owner stage already. Said it before but nobody seems to hate Vale more than some of our own so called fans.

The owners employ a CEO, Head of Recruitment and Manager. They have entrusted their wealth with these guys, do you honestly believe they don’t care.

its so strange how managers who favour three at the back have an almost cultish observance to the formation. Many managers like pep or frank will change things as needed. But the likes of Moore and Amorim refuse to consider anything different. The problem we have is that the squad is built for mores tactics.

we had Clarke, headley, debrah, Henneghan and humphrys in defence. Only one is different (and an improvement). Two struggled to hold down a place in the starting line up in league 2, and a player we released was ahead of them both.

In midfield we had Byers, croasdale and Walter. Same as league 2.

Up front we had Faal and Curtis. One a massive down grade on our league 2 striker and the other an emergency striker in league 2.

We have a better squad than last year, but it’s a massive stretch to say we are miles better.

And we need to stop the aimless crosses that do nothing, it’s not the 90’s anymore. We need to work on creating actual proper chance and no hope the balls drops nicely for us.

23/24 Vale relegated with midfield of Garrity,Ojo…..

24/25 Shrewsbury relegated with a midfield of Ojo,Shipley…..

25/26 Vale ????? with a midfield of Garrity,Ojo,Shipley…….

Any fan who thinks we just need a ST and our problems go away are kidding themselves. The balance of this team is wrong, we have too many of the same type of players.

Please DM write you best starting 11 with your best formation on a piece of paper and stick to them for 5 league games and let them develop.

Brown and Walters were the only bright spots from today. I thought everyone else was 5 or below.

I think the miles better is in reference to when we were last in League 1 to be honest. Which is correct. We couldn't defend our way out of a paper bag then.

Can we please stop with DM’s overall record with us in L1.

Yes it’s crap but that relegation team is one of the worst in the last 20 years. It was pitiful.

How about you look at DM’s overall record in L1? Tells you a different story.

He knows what he’s doing.

This is Moore's team now, we don't perform and stay afloat come Christmas , questions need to be asked. Sick of this rinse dry repeat scenario between league one and League two. Yoyo team personified

Doubt we'll see Carol for abit, maybe she'll appear for the Arsenal game and that'll be it.

Oh dear......

Just watched Dazza’s interview and never seen him so despondent. Without naming any individual player, he clearly blamed the players collectively - the defence (one unnamed player in particular) for allowing the chance for their goal and the forwards for letting what chances we had go begging. I think we can anticipate wholesale changes for the next game.

What puzzles me is what has been going on behind the scenes. We’re told that Plymouth came in quickly and aggressively, intimating that we were taken aback by their approach. Yet we knew Tolaj could go at any time, so did we have a replacement lined up or not? And was it the intention to spend now or wait until later windows? Or perhaps not at all?

We’ll never know but I wonder after today if Dazza is realising the weaknesses in the squad and the problems he will have putting them right? He seemed really put out though it’s understandable because we now have worse forward options than last season. I hope to goodness he can though, by any objective measure, doing so at this late stage will be very difficult.

Good luck Dazza - but what a mess.

The thing is I think we were taken aback by Plymouth's approach because they had been after numerous strikers before eventually deciding on Lorent (who looking back on it now was probably not even in their top 5 list of the strikers that they were after) and although it's only been two games they are already not playing to his strengths as they are playing him up front on his own, he's not getting any service and then when Pepple came on it sounded like they placed him up front and put Lorent on the wing. If Plymouth continue to play in a 4231 then I can't see him scoring many goals as he needs to have someone playing up front with him as IMO it brings the best out of him as we saw how effective he was when he was up front with Stockley. Although we knew that Lorent could go at any time I think we were expecting him to leave in January and not this Summer.
