Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Don't see the point in Shorrock going to NL. He's L1 standard in many sides.

Im pretty relaxed. If we can get Scarlett in, that would be amazing. If not, we'll stay up with what we have. No point spending money to appease fans.

Same goes for Tolaj. His XG this season must be 4, yet he's got one. Not worth breaking a wage structure for. We've come too close to losing the club too many times. Measured investment works for me.

What have you seen from Shorrock that suggests he’s league 1 standard?

He had numerous shockers last season and the previous in league 1. He’s currently 3rd choice lwb for a side in the bottom 4 and I’d be concerned if he was suddenly a regular starter.

I would agree though a national league loan is pointless. Needs sending out to league 2.

Fair point, I’m just saying he doesn’t carry the name value of Langstaff, Cole etc.

I don’t care so long as it works out. A bit nervous given the jump up the leagues but I wouldn’t write him off for that.

Will be a lot cheaper then those which will ultimately give us more to spend on other players either in this window or January and we get a proven non league scorer(although a gamble at this level i guess but one i really hope would come off)

Hope he hits the ground running. Quite a leap up the leagues. Probably not what many were hoping for with the names knocking about.

A shame about Paton but I’m guessing Moore didn’t think he had the right attributes after seeing him in the team and training.

So I do have to question our recruitment — we signed Marosi and demoted him already and spent a wedge on Paton, loaned him out and now getting rid. Not really a good look on those two and that’s before you starting questioning whether Byers was worth it and what the reasons were for the Waine acquisition.

Who is scouting and signing off on our incomings?

I might be in the minority, but I'm much keener for a signing like Pearce than I am about Scarlett or Cole.

At the same level that Tolaj shone at, he's scored far more goals and more assists.  We are probably taking a chance that he is older and hasn't been in the league before. But if it's a lowish fee, plus a young lad on loan and a player who was never getting in the team anyway, it feels like a low risk play from us for a guy that scored 32 goals and has 11 assists in 49 games at national league level.

Could be a brilliant signing, could be another Ricky Miller.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense sending Shorrock to the NL especially when he played in L2 last season. If anything he should be going on loan to a L2 club.

I agree I don't get why we would send Shorrock on loan to York.

Do you want him to remain here and struggle to even get on the bench ?

Perfect move. Lets hope he gets 30+ games in and truly see how he performs.

The fee for Ruari was believed to have been around the 150k mark

When we signed him DM was quoted as saying this "Ruari is a player that we've pursued for a good while now and we are absolutely delighted to finally get it over the line" So it's clear that DM wanted him yet he hasn't given him a proper chance to show what he can do and he certainly hasn't been given the chance to show what he can do in L1 given that he has only just come back from injury.

Not all signings work out. Even the  fantastic Sir John Rudge had several failures on his CV. Ruari is probably one in that catagory. The manager and coaches see him daily in training and have probably tried him in various roles as an attacker in training games. Just accept it that he isn't going to cut it at FL level. I've not seen any other league clubs clamouring for his signature.

L2 is where I'd send him, but not to warm the bench. He's bigger and stronger than last time (when he was 16!) And made many valuable contributions in a promoted team. Rate the lad.

I'd rather see him going out on loan to a L2 club than a NL club.

Big questions to be asked why we paid an alleged 6 figure fee and then barely gets a chance to impress.

It’s an indication to me that someone bought him for the team and not Moore.

They should review Ruari’s journey here and assess whether they need to make changes to processes in buying players. We penny pinch as it is, so it’s particularly a pain that this one didn’t work out.

I don't think it requires big questions. We took a chance on two strikers who had good records in leagues outside the EFL. You are never going to be sure how they will adapt. Looks like they might both be soon gone. One worked out, one didn't. We spent what, around £300k-£400k combined and got £1.2m in return. I would say that is good transfer business.

I don't get it. We've seen how he performs over 15-20 games in L2.

Maybe the option didn’t come up for that to happen. I’d rather him go out on loan somewhere than not play at all this year.

Meanwhile Mansfield, a team we will be battling  bring in LW Tyler Roberts from Brum.

Can anyone point to this kind of quality we have brought to the club over the summer transfer window in attacking areas?

I’d say it’s good on balance and I’d just dismiss my thoughts completely if I hadn’t just witness us sign a keeper to be #1 only to replace him with a loanee too. I’d still be very interested to know if Moore is watching the players as well or whether the recruitment team are taking a lead.

You can look at Harper being obviously a Moore signing, especially with the links they had. That didn’t work out either in the end but he certainly gave him more game time than I think most of us could tolerate 😄
