Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Out of interest, why? For me there is absolutely no way we can play either of them on the right of a back 3 next year as they’re too poor on the ball. So I’m judging them on pure defensive ability. On which Smith is miles clear.

For me, similar ability, Jessie's younger and faster, more scope for development. My response it to a scenario of having to shed one of them.

Option1:
Sang, Smith and Debrah (is he out of contract?) are not offered new contracts. Moore doesn’t think he can shift Heneghan and Hart, so he needs the positional and wage space, so the better players have to be the ones to make way.

Option2:

He offers them terms. Commits to finding new homes for Heneghan and Hart, and if not we absorb the wages, loan them out, then look to move them on in January. The renewed guys become back ups, the vacated spaces are taken by players that enhance us.

Either way, we get better defensively because it would be nonsensical to go in to league 1 with that CB mix.

No way we keep players in just because they are in contract. If the manager doesn’t think they’re good enough then I think they’ll be gone.

Hopefully he can, he has moved worse.

Smith deserves another contract, even if it’s just for a year.

I don't want to see huge upheaval, just improvements in a few key places. GK, CB and CF. Bringing on some young players (Shorrock, Walters, Debrah, Tolaj) and keeping the core of the promotion experienced heads (Garrity, Cros, Stockley, Byers, Clark etc.)

Too much change has to stop.

Fair enough. I’d agree about age and pace, just personally I prefer smith defensively, but each to their own 🙂

I suspect that is the last we've seen of Nathan Smith

Sang and Kyle John RCBs next season. We don't need 3 stereotypical centre halves.

I really think some are forgetting how much better the standard is in league 1. Last time we though we had players that would step up comfortably, the likes of Conlon, and they struggled.

I guarantee Moore signs at least 1 first team Cb. There’s no way he goes into a season in league with with the RCB options as Debs, Sang and John.

Sadly I think so too.

Don’t forget, he also has a testimonial but I don’t think he’d accept even that if he could get three years somewhere else, maybe Oldham with his mate Conlon if they come up. Smudger has been brilliant for us this last half season and I doubt we’d have been promoted without some of those never say die typical Smudger performances.

But L1 is a different kettle of fish, Dazza doesn’t strike me as a sentimental type, and at times he must have thought this has to get better.

Hope we see Smudger next season but if we do I’m sure it will be more as a back up.

Could be wrong though, just my opinion.

You have to be mobile and a better footballer as you go up the leagues. I actually think a LCB is more of a priority. Hall struggled in L1 last time and we don't have any back up in that position.

I think we can only re-sign one of Smith or Debrah if we want to bring in improvements since Heneghan and Hall are still on the books. Personally I’d pick Smith.

I'd move Heneghan on to another club. Hall and Smith will be good back up.

The only clarity from the initial retained list will be what’s happening with the out of contract players, and whether they have actually been released, are in discussions or have indeed already agreed new terms.

As DM demonstrated last year he will seek to move on under contract players he no longer requires, but that will not be highlighted publicly.  The positive this time is we have more players under contract that other clubs would actually want, so should make this task far easier.
