Summer transfer rumours and speculation

I think we need A keeper but not necessarily as one to replace Amos more to compete. Broome will go back to Swansea after tomorrow leaving us with just Amos and the lad who is in his first year as a senior professional so definitely sign another one. More than happy with Amos though, give me the even keeled keeper like him over one who is too up and down like Ripley.

Amos hasn't been faultless but he's steady and that's what you need. Ripley was too erratic...good on his day but a little bit in love with himself. You need a quiet, reassuring presence and that's what Amos has brought...it's been a huge reason why we have got over the line in my opinion.

A few stats on Amos:

3rd highest save % in League 2

4th highest clean sheet % in League 2

4th lowest goals conceded per 90 in League 2

2nd highest win % in League 2

This is obviously ignoring in intangible 'calm' he brings.

He's just been a very good keeper for the level. One big mistake away at Tranmere but otherwise very reliable. He doesn't make many worldie saves as he doesn't need to - positioning is spot on.

With numbers like that at his age he's got to be worth a punt from someone.

I saw something about him the other day but forgot his name so couldn't research him, these are the types a league club should take a punt on imo(probably end up National League first though),some in non league are saying he could be the next Jamie Vardy

Look at Wycombe they picked up Richard Kone(21) from Athletic Newham and he went straight in and played in League One scoring over 20 goals

I don't know if anyone has seen the story by the local sport journalist in Doncaster. He has done his own team of the year for the second division and he has chosen three Vale players. He chose Ben Amos, Connor Hall and Jayden Stockley. He only picked one player from his local team and that was Luke Molyneux, which is no surprise.

I only mention it because some people were saying we needed another keeper.

I think Amos will be fine in League One but we do need another keeper to compete with him

A first team keeper is a must in my opinion. Amos is decent back up but I don’t think he’s good enough for league 1 as the main keeper.

Apart from the 300 or so games he has played in League 1 or higher ...

Ben has absolutely earned the right to show the Vale jersey belongs to him in EFL1.

Of course the club will also be signing a joint number 1 to compete with him.

But the jersey starts with Ben, imho.

The biggest things I think need addressing, if Moore intends to play with the same shape;

Proper cover/ competition for Stockley

When we play poorly it's often because a massive gap between the midfield and the front 2

A defender and midfield player whose distribution is more reliable than we currently have.

It is a stronger squad than 3 years ago. It's also a stronger squad than we had in League 1. Stockley isn't as prone to injury as Proctor. Pett and Worrall were quite obviously at the back ends of their careers. We have good depth on the left, Hussey was a shadow of what he had been and Benning was always very in and out. Also a more settled keeper. 2 or 3 real quality additions and a similar number of are at league 1 standard and I think we can be very competitive.

So... Have we signed anyone yet? 🤣

A promotion celebration event but they have yet to announce the further details (maybe open top bus parade?)

I'd prefer the classier option and recreate the one  from 1983
