Port Vale v Salford City match thread - 22nd Feb

Featured Replies

Im happy with the result and fairly happy with the performance considering the injury situation hackford is unlucky not to come off the pitch with two goals to his name that was a great save to deny him and for all his inexperience/faults he stretches teams with his pace and he also played a great ball through at the beginning of the game.

The one negative for me was DM swapping hackford for umulu that was ridiculous hackfords pace and curtis's guile were asking a lot of questions and had salford looking nervous. Enter umulu who is as slow as lowe and could get pushed off the ball by a kitten. I dont care how many youth team goals he has scored he isnt going to get into position to score a goal in this league because he is lazy, weak and slow. That let salford back in it for me.

I won't comment on the Curtis red card until I know more but he will be a big miss. If tolaj is fit I'd go with hackford and tolaj up top if not hackford and chizzie.

Darren says Harper used to be a striker- sounds like he’s talking up that option 😀

It was a penalty. Mnoga left his leg out a bit, but stupid of Byers to slide in, and he did catch him.

Could be the beers in me mate could be the beers 😂

I thought it was a pen as well, I was right behind it in the Hamil - thought there was some good noise in there today again 👏👏👏

Cant believe every other basket team won today - we really are doing it the hard way

I hope not I think byers harper and croasdale is a decent midfield capable of getting better the more they play together disrupting the midfield again would be a mistake in my opinion. We have hopes that tolaj will be available again and chizzie could also play there.

Play Shorrock upfront if needs be, he knows where the goal is at least.

Excellent 3 points but it's never easy supporting the Vale.

Looked a soft penalty but need to see a replay.

I didn't see anything to warrant a red card at the end, there was the usual handbags when a team tries to keep the ball in the corner but nothing violent. The one violent challenge that went unpunished was Tilt's elbow into Gurtis's throat/chest.

If the red card isn't rescinded than Just have to hope Tolaj is fit to play alongside Hackford or play chizz up front.

Was DM preparing us for the possibility of Harper playing up top  next week at the end of his interview?

Thought it was a cracking win given the injury situation.  I thought we looked a lot better side than them.  They looked bottom third of the table for a lot of that game.  All the more frustrating that we didn't put ourselves out of sight and let them back in.

Surprised to see Hackford getting stick on here.  He certainly didn't get any in the ground and came off to a standing ovation.  For a 4th choice striker he did a great job.  He worked his socks off, his pace got him away a few times and his finish was great for the goal.  Yes,another player would probably have done better with the header and held the ball up more but that isn't his game at all.

Very pleased with the win, but did feel like we made hard work of it.

But it's a big win.

Good win under circumstances but very very disappointed with Curtis.

He was fired up, played excellently and then goes and lets himself down. Noticeable muted celebrations at the end by the players.

Lovely finish by Hackford.

The Palace lad looks out of his depth still. Don’t think he’s realised yet he’s playing men’s football. Still not seen him sprint. He’s got to do a lot more than that today.

I wonder if Stevie wonder was doing

the scouting with regards Umolu

Great to see chizzie back on the pitch I thought he was calm, kept the ball well and helped us to see it out.

Really could of done without the Curtis incident.  As the squad gets further depleted does the club have the option to bring back Paton and Plant early if required ?

They were probably the worst team we’ve played this season. Curtis needs fining 6 months’ wages. If Tolaj not back, I’d rather give Big Jesse a go up front than Umolu. The latter doesn’t look fit or motivated or both.

Dumb quote of the day. 6 months wages my arse

We've got a week, hopefully Tolaj is back and maybe Stockley?

Good 3 points today - a real team effort.

After a good game, Curtis gets a red. Silly.
