League two side makes 11 changes and loses to a League One side that picks a strong team in a tournament that is ultimately of little consequence.

They made 10 changes too. Albeit there second string is a lot stronger than ours in all fairness

And so now Clarke is injured because of playing him in the stupid comp. Happy now

I am with you here.

Anybody that supports this comp must have a brick between their ears. Supporting a stupid format, where if we get to Wembley we would take an embarrassing 8k max. Thank god we are out and don't have to put up with it until next season.

Has the question been asked why?

Darren?
Carol?
Matt?

Please explain!

Because it’s pointless and will cost the club money for a failed appeal.
The appeals committee usually back the referee unless a clear error has been made.

A clear error was made on this occasion and to lose Clark now as well as Sang could cost us dearly. I’m surprised we’ve not contested it.

I never want to see Vale lose , not even tonight , but I’m glad this competition is behind us now , after paying the price to lose Clark. They really should end this joke of a trophy . It’s pointless .

I'm going to be called a right negative Norman but I feel that the next 2 games as they are, Sang out for 4 games, Smith right side of centre and Clark possible being out the rest of the season is going to cost us auto promotion and with as tight as things are maybe even play offs

11 changes and 10 lads who proved why they don't get a start on a Saturday. Clark being injured is a nightmare but other than that it is what it is.

I think this competition is good for lower league sides but needs a restart without the under 21s and I think all games should be played on a Tuesday night. We should play our second string instead of losing our first teasers to injury which seems that we have tonight

Went to the game. Not seen DM's post match yet.

First half I thought we did really well. Great start, certainly.

Curtis put in the best shift of the game, and once Rico Richards had to come off it was game over. Similar story of struggling with the build up play, without Stockley we were lost.

Lots of poor control/passes in the midfield tonight, and poor Jack Shorrock had a very hard night and was on the pitch longer than he should have been.

Broome could have done better for all of the goals. I hope never to see him play again in a Vale shirt.

Concerns for Mitch, I hope is ok, looked quite bad for him coming off.

I'm disappointed in the goals conceded, all pretty awful, but now we can focus on the league.

After my first game in the Lorne Street, I can safely say I hope not to attend many more games in there again. The 400 Wrexham fans made more noise than us even going behind and the game being level.

Do think the club should open up the Hamil for paying supporters on games like this, though I guess this might be more money than just opening up the Lorne.

As for the competition, I'd rather they either bin it off completely or get rid of the Prem U21s and only have Championship sides in it.

But I don't think the competition is really viable anymore anyway.

Was he injured in a tackle ?   Or was it just that his body gave way as it has before . Its unfortunate for him but has nothing to do with a bad tackle or a bad competition .  Or are you saying we should only play him when he cant possibly get injured .   Over the years we have had many good players whose bodies have not been up to the rigours of professional football - its unfortunate - but sadly true .  Or are you one of the mummies who wont let Johnny go out play in case he gets hurt . Grow up mardy

I am absolutely devastated, I thought we had a chance tonight. Although we played a huge club like Wrexham I still had belief, gutted we couldn't win and pull a bigger premierleague side.

We go again next season. UTV

It’s the manner of the performance Andy.
There is a way to lose a football match and that wasn’t it.
That performance tonight shows that almost half of this squad, going into the business end, can’t be arsed.
So dismiss it mate. But that was unacceptable tonight for any player wearing the shirt.
And you should know better than most. We got to an Anglo Italian cup final back in the day. Where we had to travel to Italy in the group games with a far less squad than today.
And got outclassed in the final.

We didn’t get outclassed tonight.
We got battered by Wrexham who made 10 changes and it could have been 7 or 8 goals.

Regardless of the competition it was an embarrassing showing on the pitch.
