I fail to understand how any buisness can offer the bulk of its customers a discount of nearly 50% off the standard charge and hope to survive.
Bradford City are trying out a scheme where instead of a season ticket, you can buy a reserved seat for the season at £50, and get a discount on a walk up ticket. Suits people who can only make half the matches but prefer a regular seat. Obviously the discount will be less than ST discount, but something for the new owner. The ST discount at Vale is quite high, but how does it compare to other clubs, I am sure in Bell`s day he used to say 4 matches for free with a ST.

Not if you know in advance that you can only make half of the games it isnt, but fans still do it.

For example I will miss 3 games for training courses, a couple through pressure of work, plus music festivals and gigs, weddings , holidays etc etc.

I'm probably going to miss much of if not the entire season and I still have one, if you have the money and you love the club you will go out and buy one. If you don't have the money or don't love the club you won't its quite simple.

Fans will pay if the team is winning and doing well, we only just got over 5k when it was just £5 to get in against Torquay last season, it's been the product that's been the main problem in recent years, I've left some games thinking that wouldn't have been worth a free ticket!!

Nice if you can get your hands on a free ticket;)

Noone was moaning when they where queing after the game had kicked off against Shrewsbury with nearly 9,000 there.

Im not arguing the ticket prices are not high - £18 would be more acceptable..but it is all about life choices. I understand the club is in difficulty so i will pay it, in the same way that i pay for petrol - i need it, and i need to go to the Vale to watch my team.

For some people ( and dont shoot me down here, as im mentioning no names ) but they will spend £40 a week on fags and booze, eat take aways 4 days a week and then moan "its too dear to get in"

Fact is, if we drop to £18, unless we are doing well the gates will be static..so why not charge more and get more revenue?

If we are winning and doing well - then perhaps..but lets be honest, if we where top of the table and walking it - you would find the £21 to go..and thats the honest answer.

the problem is that the entertainment served has not been value for money.

Young is stating facts is he not? We need 5k to break even. If it has touched a nerve with some, then so be it.

For Gods sake its £20!!!!!! you probably lose £2 a week down the back of the sofa!! in the street!!! its £20 they have already lowered it from £21-50!!

If they lower it to £18 quid we wont get any more fans!! just less income

Do we want to have a competative playing budget? Do we want to get out of this league? will you all stop MOANING about the matchday prices and SUPPORT your team!!!

If we go on a run and are top of the league we will get the crowds back....6 - 7 k is not insurmountable nobody will moan about prices then but about the team, perfomances, who we will bring in in the transfer window not 'i.m not going cuz of A,B.C excuse

Please give it a rest and get up to vale and pack the park...the club needs us more than ever!!!

Just a thought,

with reference to match day prices it would be interesting to know the amount of 18-55 's that pay as oap or under 16's, when clearly they dont belong in that bracket (if this was policed better would we need less than the 5000 or could ticket prices be dropped as there is more revenue to counteract the below target attendance)

What is the alternative? ID cards? Fingerprint checks? I suppose it is one of the advantages of swipe card systems that more is known about the fan, but a too expensive method for us. Were there not student prices in Bell`s days? We just have to trust people, maybe a stricter regime would deter some, but when we are short of money people need to cough up if they can.

I see your point and it is a cause for concern. But I think it would cost more to 'police' than it would recover.

I noticed at Accy that the stewards were questioning folk if they looked "Suspicious" One lad lad tried for the juniors and was told get back in the queue for full price.

We should be getting more value from our stewards especially those by the turnstiles as you go in,if they are not there to "Catch" the odd one why is there so many there ?

The simple way would be to make it ticket only for concessions, by showing a passport, driving licence, student card etc; like you do with a season tickets.
