Port Vale v Walsall match thread - Dec 7th

All of the Vale supporters have had to endure today's poor performance from both the players and the management team.

It was a really disappointing Vale showing, especially second half.

But the positive majority of the Vale supporters also have to endure the inevitable outpourings from the moanaholic minority who appear to think that spewing bile somehow contributes to making the club better.

It doesn't, it's just crass self-indulgence and a pain to everyone else.

I remain very confident that Vale will win promotion this season.

And the key to that promotion will be the positive majority of Vale supporters who get behind the team even more strongly when, like today, things get difficult.

We need to be entertained first Alan

Robbie’s changed his song from ‘’Let me entertain’’ you to ‘Let me bore you with a defensive set up and no strikers’’

Bromley unbeaten in 7 league games, 3 wins 4 draws, need to do more than just turn up.

I didn't say that

Oh my god that is a poor GK error from Ripley.

This is only a guess, but on any other day after Ripley parried that shot, it would have gone over the bar. However, the wind appeared to slow it down and it dropped into the net. So I wouldn't blame him too much

I blame poor tactics and poor desire

So after getting back to Sheffield my thoughts -

Weather played a massive part.

First half should have taken our chance. At half time both teams on par with each other. We needed to be a bit more direct and not passing out and to the back.

First 25 mins of the 2nd half we did not get to grips with either Walsall or the weather kicking the other way. We were shoddy and their goal came. We did not boss the midfield and everything just kept coming back at us.

After the subs we started to get a bit more via midfield but again did not take or make our chances. Did think we had equalised but having that man on the line paid dividends.

Overall lacking in midfield creativity and up front.

Still got plenty of games left to make amends and no point panicking yet. Nobody wins the league before Christmas.

Awful. Conditions were atrocious but come on. We create absolutely nothing.

Another awful performance. Too slow! we don’t get hold of a game at all. It’s on you Darren Moore. Why do we chop and change so much? How are we meant to build partnerships throughout the team? Both sides were poor but they were better second and then Ripley goes and palms one into his net. We cant seem to create chances like a top side will do. We’ve got a huge squad but im thinking we need to sign 2-3 players in January to give us any hope. We’ve been off the pace weeks and it needs sorting, Darren.

side note - crowd and atmosphere was awful. We don’t deserve that anything

This defeat has been coming . We haven’t been playing like a top of league side , not even close , for the last month.  With a tough away fixture at Bromley to come , Moore must pick a strong attacking side and stick with it. My worry is that he is so defensively minded that it’s hard to see where the goals will come from , despite all that so called talent on view. At this stage of the season , most teams have a settled side ready to give it a go for the second half. Port Vale look like a broken jigsaw puzzle . We’re all over the

place . With Moore’s tactics , I doubt that players are given free rein to take the game by the scruff of the neck . It’s all very starchy and rigid. We’ll drop like a rock if it continues.

Overall a pretty poor display from the Vale but then conditions were not very  good at all ,same for both teams but a Vale playing at a 5 out of 10 isn't good enough for a team at top of the table .

Effort was there but where's the confidence.

Having our poor spell .

Good see Byers back

Won't last for long

Walsall have a curse over Vale so no big deal

There fan̈s were fantastic .

Vale Some were encouraging but not enough were

How much did our support want it

Not enough

The fans can only do so much

The hunger and desire has to come from the players at the end of the day

Fans steaming out

Yes it’s cold but once u have made the effort <ovf censored> me

Crewe probably give the owners hope today they must of thiught why

Controversial view.

Thought we were shocking today. Absolutely zero effort to rally the players after the goal, then sat in silence for the rest of the half before booing semi-frequently. I'm not one to start chants but was joining in by myself from the back of the Railway at times. It was the same against Crewe. Off goes Harper and it's a morgue.

I get the argument that 'the performance was rubbish' but surely we can play a small part in whipping them up? This view that 'the performance was bad, ergo the fans must be silent' is nuts. Are we that reactive? Is our only job to react to the players' performances.

We're all jumping up and down, hooting and hollering when things go well (Vale on the drink, ole ole!) but a dip in form and we're storming out with 5 to go, silent for 45 minutes, booing a backwards pass.

We were bad today but Ripley's weird save doesn't get caught in the wind and we probably get a point. To mope in silence because we weren't going to be top anymore was pretty bad from us as a fanbase. We've got to take the initiative sometimes and drive them on!

Just got in.

Possibly the worst weather conditions I've ever seen.......but that was horrific.

They were hungrier and better in most departments.

All those saying rest Stockley to avoid a ban looked foolish as bizarrely we don't play our main striker at home.

Completely numbed by that today, bereft of any idea. Although Byers looked quality.

Walsall were as meh as can be. Lowe utter tripe. Yet they won at a canter. Actually posted in the summer it's a 44 game season as they completely have the hoodoo over us.

1 win in 5, playing pretty crap is very concerning. We are in limp mode. Ought to be over the horizon with this squad.

Walsall are a competent team, but come on that was truly abysmal.

We need to wake the fook up, sharpish.

Do we?

We're fans of a 4th tier, relatively unsuccessful football club, having a good crack at a promotion. I really don't expect us to be 2nd in the league whilst playing entertaining football. I certainly don't condition my support on said entertainment.

The players have got to show the desire and passion , Do they want to get promoted or not # Don't lay it at the fans door that's not right

The PVTV interview with Moore was about as pointless as the performance. No meaningful questions and no meaningful answers.

I know it’s the club media team but how about asking the manager to explain his thinking to stick with a system that isn’t working or to play no strikers in a top of the table clash?

The manager set us up to nick a result

He did not set us up to win the game
