Match thread: Salford City v Port Vale, 10th August

Featured Replies

I think this will be a draw 1-1 which would be a decent start, Salford are no mugs and whilst not worried by pre season results we will need to bed in and will be missing some key players it seems.

I think like the promotion season last time we will start with a few draws and the odd loss before kicking into gear the first 4 or 5 games, after 4 games we had 3 points that season and 6 after 6 games before winning 4 on the spin and getting 23 points from 10 games, so nothing is won or lost in August.

RWB/RB is a big concern but otherwise we are full of quality at this level everywhere else so hopefully we can have a good season.

I think we'll lose. I expect us to concede within 10 minutes to a straight long ball down the middle which won't be dealt with properly. It'll be a rude awakening to life in League 2 with those who we all know aren't fit to wear the shirt again showing their true colours. I don't think we'll lose as badly as the first game of last season though.

That’s what I’ll be doing - setting my expectations so low that a morale victory will be that none of the starting 11 break a leg during the warm-up. 😉

Salford, as it stands, have signed more players than us so the "time to gel" thing may not hold water depending on their line up on the day in the event of a poor showing.

With another behind closed doors game today, presumably any trialists to sign will at the earliest sign tomorrow, so 3 days before kick off. It's absolutely not the club's fault at all that Clark has picked up a, by the sounds of it, freak accidental injury (nor is it his), but I suppose I am a bit disappointed that while the forward recruitment has been genuinely amazing, in comparison we only had one 'main position' right back in the squad as late as late July, which is the last time Clark played (Bath) as far as I can tell. RB was a key area of weakness last season and I suppose I just can't help but be worried about it.

But, there's still 24 days of the window left and that Kyle John who's impressed people on trial can play both sides which is great.

One or two journalists saying there could be postponements across the EFL this weekend due to the riots.

Don’t be surprised if our game is one of the then, as I’d imagine Manchester will be one the targeted locations.

Such a shame.

One of the targeted locations published by the far-right nutters is only a short distance from our place.

Hopefully the police are on top of it all at every location.

Issue will be if the number of police required for the braindead protest means the game, with a sellout away end, can't operate safely.

2-2

Had a bet have we Brian? 😏😉

Given our injuries I’ve no idea how we’ll line up, or how good/bad Salford are, so I’d be quite happy starting with an away point and a decent if not earth shattering performance, 1-1.  Be nice to see one of our new forwards get off the mark early doors.  Win, lose or draw the performance is key after last seasons capitulation.

I think a bigger consideration will be racists people with legitimate concerns spilling out of the stadium footprint and antagonising the local community around the Prestwich / Bury New Road area.

Come away from bbc sky news etc and u will see some of the far worst violence being carried out towards white people so u could say u becareful on your way home weapons are being used and allowed to be used

Do you by any chance spend a lot of time on social media?

Just asking.

No idea what the line up will be Saturday, or what formation Moore is likely to play, but, on the positive side of things, I'm going for a Vale win 1-3 [emoji102][emoji1303]
