Match thread: Salford City v Port Vale, 10th August

I think we’ll look cagey - not through instruction but because there’s still some work to do on bringing it all together.

Some will use this as a stick to beat Moore with, and claim it’s instructed. It won’t be.

Garrity right wing could work 😂 Along with Jones at right back. Frightening!

Anyone could end up on the right out of that midfield 5

As for Jones at least the lad puts challenges in and is capable of passing it superbly .

What's your team by the way

😂😂😂 I’d go…

                         Amos

      Lomax   Heneghan  Hall   Hart

                       Croasdale

         Chizzy    Garrity      Curtis

                     Paton     Tolaj

With what’s available at the min.

Well no, of course not but they don't gel and develop an understanding overnight. There's been rotation in friendly games so everybody can get fit, but whatever the first XI ends up being are obviously not going to be the finished article.

If we're at the races, then amazing - but I understand it can take a bit of time. When you look at the goals conceded for instance there's obvious communication issues with the players and going forward, they should get better the more they play together.

I can see it being quite tight, and I'd be happy with a draw. The season is long, anyway. No point getting carried away 'with the players we have' and thinking we've won before we've turned up.

Didn’t suggest we have won anything before we have turned up and I agree with your post. I just don’t think the way to go at any point this season is sitting in. We tried it last season and got battered in games, putting up no fight, shots or anything. Posh and Bolton at the back end of the season were prime examples of this.

Im not saying we should be turning up at Salford, or anywhere else for that matter and rolling them over. But what I do expect us to do is play on the front foot and to try and win games of football. Or if playing more cautious to at least attempt to have efforts on goal. With the signings we have made we shouldn’t be going into any game at this level thinking that we need to sit back for 90 minutes and playing it safe.

i think I would go

Ripley

Sang Heneghan Hall Hart

Croasdale Ojo

Curtis Garrity Tolaj

Paton

I still think Ojo could be a real asset at this level and we should be able to control games with that midfield. Chislett I would start but picked up that knock so I think he will miss out. Byers, Clarke and Stockley would all normally start for me.

If we do, and we have the lions share of the game, then I'm really not worried about Sang defensively, for instance.

But in the event it's not a great result, providing it's not 7-1, I won't be panicking. We have gone a league below so the expectations clubs might have towards us might give us more freedom to play. Just looking forward to the game now and a few more after that before I start forming an opinion / airing concerns. UTV.

Ok my team as it stands and what we know.

                      Ripley

Sang  Heneghan  Hall  Hart

Chissy Croasdale Garrity Curtis
                     Tolaj

If Jones is playing surely he has to be on the left though, he’s no right foot 😅

7-1 would be an improvement from game 1 last season 😂

I have a feeling Chiz will start & he just wasn’t risked against Bolton mate

Yeah he’s a great little player, can drift in & out of games at times but all attacking midfielders can to be fair. Be a big player for us this season in league two

This will be quite tough. Salford will want to dominate possession under Robinson and it'll be a test of how decent we are without the ball. I think we'll still be figuring things out across the first 5 games. They have some nice CB options in Negru, Chester, and Tilt, and Stockton will be looking to kick on after a good loan spell at Barrow. The key battle will be in midfield.

Everyone will hate it, but I don't think any RB signed now will be match-fit enough to start Saturday. Sang will probably start. This isn't me saying he's good, just that I think he'll start.

Ripley

Sang Heneghan Hall Hart

Croasdale Ojo

Chislett Garrity Curtis

Tolaj

Bench: Amos, Debrah, Jones, Plant, Lowe, Shorrock, Paton

The aim will then have to be slowly integrating Byers, Stockley, and Smith as the weeks go on.

A winger on loan in place of Shorrock is probably needed.

Their lineup in their final friendly was something like:

Jones

Edwards Negru Tilt Garbutt

Ashley Lund

McAleny Woodburn N'Mai

Dackers

A fairly drab 0-0, I'd go for.

I also think that will be the team. Even taking injuries into account, defo room for a few more signings looking at that bench.

Lumping on vale win 7:0 what goes around comes around 🤣
