Match thread: Salford City v Port Vale, 10th August

Call me miserable, but considering we've had the best summer we've had in donkeys years signing wise, I'm going into this game not feeling all that optimistic. Pre-season was pretty dreadful. Some new signings have barely had a kick yet. Injury hit players getting injured before a ball has been kicked. A major lack of strength at right-back. No pace in the team...

I suspect the opening match will be a bit drab. I think Moore will play it safe and we will see a 0-0 draw.

Something to look forward to after Southgate also tortured us all this summer.

Who knows but I just can’t see us keeping a clean sheet….

Need Stockley to get fit pronto…. He’s a good centre forward who very much knows the game at this level and that can give the rest of the team a real boost which they ll need as a relegated team . Add Smith in at centre half and the team looks a bit stronger.

I still say it’ll be tough for us Saturday. Defensively we look average and somehow we have got ourselves in a position where we have to start with such an inexperienced forward line….i m fairly sure we ll concede so we will have to find a goal from somewhere just to achieve party…

i think he may play 1 up front… but to be honest nothings very clear currently which is a concern considering pre season is done and dusted.

anyway main thing is it ll be 10 games before we have a real feel for what’s what due to the amount of changes.

Be great to get started this pre season seems to have just dragged on and on.

I think we’ll look cagey - not through instruction but because there’s still some work to do on bringing it all together.

Some will use this as a stick to beat Moore with, and claim it’s instructed. It won’t be.

Nothing wrong with cagey… it beats disorganised in my book any day.

😂😂😂 I’d go…

                         Amos

      Lomax   Heneghan  Hall   Hart

                       Croasdale

         Chizzy    Garrity      Curtis

                     Paton     Tolaj

With what’s available at the min.

Fair enough hope Lomax can perform away from home if selected

Rest of teams good enough for league 2 you would think ..

It's all about playing on front foot ,if we try defend we inevitably will give teams a leg up ,I've no idea what sell out away following is ,but you would  expect see challenges going in fight and will to win .

I pick Jones because he is a forward thinking defender, who can pass it well at times

Sang no you just cannot play him, as a defender it's not really fair on the lad  to do so .

I hope there's pace in back line if playing high line .

If not asking for trouble

Be interesting see Moores way of setting up

Attack is got to be the best form of defence ,high line .

Amos or Ripley have to be on there toes.

1300 is the allocation mate

I have no idea what the formation starting 11 or result will be on Saturday. First time on 53 years I genuine have no idea.

Lomax shouldn't be nowhere near starting an away game. And although I think both are good signings, Hall and Heneghan have to be the slowest combination since the Two Fat Ladies.

You can see Smith, Chislett, Dipepa (I think) and Byers (I think) in the open training session video.

Definitely Chiz, Byers & Dipepa. I never noticed Smith myself but could have easily missed him
