Wigan (A) match thread - 6th April

Recommended Posts

The report on the PV website paints a picture of Wigan having and missing a lot of chances. PV hung on for a draw etc.

But the stats say it was 13 shots each and PV were on target 4 times v Wigan's 2. Both teams had barn door issues, but PV slightly less?

on another front following recent events I don’t think that Carol has the insight, experience or money to run a football club and so needs to reevaluate her position, extra investment is needed, I’ve heard again and again about mr Williams putting money into the club. Being worth approximately £250,000,000 if he’d been that concerned about keeping the vale in league one he would have paid a short term contract for 2-3 out of contract strikers to keep us up. Cuz I would have mr Williams !!!!!!

Moore has recognised that he simply has to play Garrity in proper midfield and he has therefore been prepared to sacrifice him playing as an attacking forward. It's a pragmatic decision that at least gives us more resilience.
People saying he had a 'poor' game yesterday are oblivious to what he's actually doing in that role. He has to work his butt off relentlessly in there.
Its a trade off. Higher up for a goal threat or where he is to bolster and strengthen midfield and defence?

Just quoting current lack of form by the two teams closest to us

Form table over the last 6 paints a very different story tbf.

Correct. It's about the next 5 games. My point was that if we are picking up points now and the others can't win many games then at least we are giving ourselves the best chance. I know is stating the obvious but I did say in previous posts that if you keep clean sheets you pick up at least a point.

He was poor that’s why mate. One thing garrity always does is gives 100% & works his socks off. That can’t be an excuse for when he’s on the ball. His passing was terrible at times & why he didn’t shoot when through on goal I don’t know. Passing to Massey was never going to end in a goal 😆 Gazza is wasted in the centre & needs to be further forward for me but we don’t have many options alongside Ojo so can see why he’s played there

I know our game midweek is big, but we need Carlisle to show up at Cheltenham on Tuesday and Bristol Rovers (in freefall presently) to show up there next weekend. They have two home games in a row. they will see as bankers This is their make or break week.

Massive mate this week is! Can see Carlisle nicking a point at Cheltenham Tuesday. There’s a lot of pressure on them to get the win & with Taylor now out injured I think they’ll flap. 0-0

It is and I understand why. However if we were failing to get a striker there were midfield players who could do what Garrity currently does and were available; which would have allowed Garrity to play further forward. Garrity is solid enough as a defensive midfielder but his real value is when playing further forward. Playing 352 we've sacrificed our 3 main goal threats. If we'd got a central midfield player to allow us to play 3421 Garrity and Chislett could have got forward more. Maybe Gore was the man but I suspect we'll never know. Maybe Mighton and Chislett could have filled the 2 ten roles but Mighton has become invisible.

Not sure. We’ve seen numerous times that when relegation is sealed then the pressure lifts and teams start putting some results together. But DC will know the importance of this game to them, and I wouldn’t surprised if they edged it 1-0. That’s why I was slightly disappointed we couldn’t nick the win yesterday.

Such a shame that when we finally start to play with a bit of pride and passion, we let ourselves down with the awful quality we have in the team.

Yes the last two away games were there for winning and yet we fail in both. The final ball in or the wrong decision made shows poor quality from almost every player and when we do get the ball to create a chance, we fail massively. No goals scored has cost us points in the last two games.

So yes it is a good turnaround in the last four games as plenty keep telling us but maybe not good enough and looking at the performances, we should have had more than 8 points. Lets hope we dont regret these results.

its the 30 odd results before that we will be regretting 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

PS - I think we will stay up
