I think the last time we had two good  "first team" keepers on the books at the same time was Jak Alnwick and Chris Neal

I remember the vote for the best Vale team of the 2010s, and Scott Brown (a decent keeper and lovely man) beat both Neal and Alnwick to GK choice. Dismayed.

'Port Vale fans consistently overrate goalkeepers with likeable personalities' (30 marks)

Discuss this position, using both Scott Brown and Connor Ripley in your answer.

Alwick & Neal were different gravy

Just a friendly today, but tolaj looked quite sharp, drops back into the pocket and tries to knit play together. Seemed to have good strength on him.

Wasn't overly impressed with our trial winger. Nothing much came off for him, and decision making not the best. Could just be one of those days though.

Paton was interesting. Didn't really get any service, but is quite busy and like tolaj, drops short to make things happen. He's got quite a solid build in a barrel chested kind of way. Couldn't quite figure out whether this is his shape, or early in pre season.

LB trialist seemed keen and generally did quite well. At first I thought he was a bit conservative and played back to keep possession. However as 2nd half went on and had better movement in front of him (Shorrock) did make some good attacking choices.

Curtis had a few nice bits in first half but got frustrated when it didnt work out. Felt he was playing in friendly mode, off the ball as didn't put up much fight.

Hall had a bit of a shocker. Seemed a bit slow of thought, got caught out a few times. Hopefully preseason rustiness and not what Colchester say he has become.

Stockley didn't have much to do, but did seem to stick around more up top than tolaj, Paton and Dipepa who seek the ball.

Shorrock put in a few beautiful crosses, and generally looked class on the ball, but a bit lightweight off it.

Dipepa didn't get much luck in the first half. Think he might have bulked up a bit --> or maybe it's that the rest of our team is generally average to small in height.

Can't really remember much else apart from Sang taking two of the worst corners I've seen. Both bounced multiple times before reaching the 6 yard box.

In conclusion we shouldnt be too bothered by this result. We had a lot of new players and effectively two line ups.

I think the reason a lot thought Ripley was so good last season is because the keepers were so bad the season before. Just to have have a keeper that could save a shot was an upgrade on the season before where nearly every shot on target went in.

Yeah and it didn’t last long when both were fit.

Did the LB on trial show much pace at all? as I do think we are lacking in that department

Thats a really summary of the lad, just going off that obviously we might just get a bargain there for free, can play in multiple positions as well with ease. Certainly one to keep an eye on whilst he is with us

Also in the main he can play RB and LB which is just the type of young player I thought we would bring in

Mipo on trial at Barnsley. Bloody hell Darrell what you thinking 😂

He will probably end up hitting it off somewhere and being a decent player,it just didn't work here for him or us

Hasn’t worked out anywhere so far. Certainly don’t think he’s good enough for league 1 at the minute.
