Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Yep Vtid, it's a bit unfair comparing him with Top Pope in the air as there haven't been many better than TP in the air over the years although Vale have had a few that have come close in their time, Roy Chapman, Beamo, Sammy Morgan.

Not forgetting Darren I can hang in the air for five  minutes Beckford 😁👍

If you are bringing Tom Pope into the debate, then you are comparing the two players.
So I’ll break down the two players…..

Number 1. Tom was a goalscorer. Uche is not.
Number 2. Tom could hold the ball up with a delicate touch. Uche has a trampoline foot.
Number 3. When Tom won headers they would go to another player or in the onion bag. When Uche wins headers they bounce off his 50p head. That’s if he actually connects at all!
Number 4. Tom was a professional footballer who loved the club and lived his dream. Uche is acting like a professional footballer who certain fans think he’s ok because he’s 18 stone and causes a nuisance.

If a 29 year old Pope was worth 300k in the market and got roughly 3k a week in wages then a 29 year old Uche is worth 50 quid and a bag of washers and should be on minimum wage.

The two are miles apart in terms of goalscoring and ability.

Tom Pope scored 12 goals in yotal during the 3 seasons prior to 2012/13. He was never a regular goal scorer for most of his career. He scored 10 plus goals 5 times, 4 of which were in league 2. He had 2 fantastic seasons as a goal scorer, first season back being the other. If you discount the promotion season he scored around a goal every 4 games. That's a good record for someone whose game was more than just goals but not a prolific goal scorer. The fact is most fans were disparaging of him in the summer prior to his dream season. I made quite a few posts on here saying he deserved the chance to prove he could be the main man and was pretty roundly condemned for saying he could score 15 goals.

Tom Pope was paid more than 3k a week at Bury.

Showing your age there pal 😆 Lee mills is as far as I can remember before Sir Tom. Always thought he was decent in the air.

Ernie Moss was the best centreforward in the air I've seen at Vale. Beckford, Pope and Mills were all good.  The one who doesn't get much of a mention was Proctor. If it wasn't for injuries Proctor would have played many more games in The Championship.  Overall ability wise (not just heading) I'd say he was on a par with Mills.

Another released striker is Lyle Taylor but he has also had his fair share of injuries but at 34 would he do a job at League 2 level for a season
Cambridge fans hate him. I'd be very underwhelmed with him.

Research his injury record

His stats say he’s made over 40 appearances  every season for the last 8 years. With roughly  goal every 4 games. Not bad that.

My priority signing would be Gibbo. Make him captain and get some full blooded commitment and nastiness in our team to start the culture change.

Also I'd be looking at winger Jack Nolan only 22. The goal involvement king (17 goals 8 assists) of L2 last season and is out of contract.

Both with a view to playing predominantly 4231/442/343 next season.

I don’t understand the clamour for Gibbo. I loved him when he was here. But the bloke’s a known crock.

How can people (rightly) complain about Wilson’s injury record but then advocate for someone else with one just as bad?
