Worst vale team ever

As a 42 year old I’d say We’ve had some pretty bad teams in league one and league two and somehow managed to stay up but for in terms of quality lacking all over the pitch and this situation was completely avoidable then I think this is probably the worst for me. We lack fight, strength, pace and most importantly ability. If it wasn’t for watching Ollie and Alfie for some part of the season and a bit of joy to watch two players like that then I’d probably say I haven’t enjoyed many games at all this season. It’s been a complete waste.

Hi all where does this present team rank in vales worst ever. Surely It’s got to be up there and I’ve been watching them for 55 years !!! 😂

Nowhere near. 79 - 81 were the worst years to support the club.

Agree even with a number of games to go there is no fight or passion the team has simply downed tools and is just awaiting the inevitable relegation into league 2 and then the national league if they’re not careful!!!

JRC I think you and Rider are both right based on different times.  This current team has no desire probably based on technical ability. Of recent times I preferred the  football we were playing under JA in the season that was suspended, even more so than the promotion season. It could well have been that there was a change in how we played that season.

I wouldn't call them the worst but then again I wouldn't say they were any better than the worst. I certainly wouldn't back them to beat the worst. In fact I wouldn't confidently back them to beat our women's team the women would probably bully them. I do think this is the weakest bunch of players I have ever seen and my first season was 1972. Sang couldn't get the ball off my 82 year old mother. There is no fight in any of them just short periods where one or two have a go for five minutes but then they give up. There is some level of technical ability in some of these players but they allow teams to dominate them so they don't get the chance to play. You have to win the ball before you can do anything with it.

I saw someone say that we are on a par with the Bruno/Brown team of 2016/17 but not quite as bad as the Foyle/Sinnott team of 2007/08, and I tend to agree.

There have been worse Vale sides in the fourth tier. The Pugh/Tonge axis of evil immediately springs to mind.

I wonder what Carlisle fans are saying about their lot some 9 points below us.

Anyway, 2008-09, 18th in League Two with Danny Glover and Kyle Perry up front.

2017-18 and 2018-19, 20th in League Two with having won 2 league games in the second half of the 2017-18 season

Difficult to compare a poor third tier team to a poor fourth tier team. I'm sure Derby's 11 point Premier League team (which included Darren Moore actually) would beat the team that got us promoted out of League Two without much effort.

I think the Bruno / Brown team from last time we got relegated was pretty horrific too. I seem to remember we had literally no CB’s so had to ship Andre Bikey and Ryan Taylor in, whilst relying on deadly JJ Hooper and big Reg for goals. I think Bikey and Des Walker’s lad (Tyler was it?) got injured just as they were starting to look good. I’d say this team is worse though, I literally cannot see us winning another game.

The two or three months when Gannon was in charge for some reason has stuck in my mind as the worst Vale team I’ve watched (since the mid 1980s).  However when I look at the stats 2010-11 wasn’t all that bad as we had a good start under Micky Adam’s, so perhaps it was just the deterioration in performance under Gannon and the ownership turmoil that I made me feel so down about the team at the time?

Although we are a division higher, since Moore took over this past month has been without doubt the worst team I have watched.  However,  I took a complete year off after the Ribeiro/Brown debacle and never saw the Neil Aspin managed team that finished 20th in league 2 in 2018.
