They could and should have cleared the pitch. For reasons unknown they chose not to. They literally let the Reading fans freely run onto the pitch. Everyone knew it was going to happen so it's inconceivable the club and police didn't. This was a few hundred fed-up Reading fans, NOT 5000 hooligans intent on disorder.

The police have failed Reading and Vale today. They were absolutely useless and it begs the question...what exactly was the point of them being there?

Have there been any precedents set in the past based on any similar circumstances (pitch invasions by fans) or is this a first? 
Could it be that we get the 3 points?

They then use the bank loans to pay themselves more dividends. No idea why Jim Radcliffe (a pretty competent business man) has got involved as he has no real control. So their model is to keep squeezing more and more money out of fans. Provided they can do that they can pay themselves more and more money. The top clubs are effectively marketing and merchandising businesses which happen to play football.  Results on the pitch and even profit are secondary to increasing revenue so owners can take out ever more money.

I'd be staggered if the EFL made an example of Reading in this way, given what little I have seen of the regs.  They maintain the points must be decided on the pitch - though there seems to be nothing about compensating the inconvenienced team and its fans as far as I can see.  Maybe they will fine Reading, or deduct more points, but I just don't see them giving Vale 3 points - it opens up a real can of worms for the other clubs affected mid season.

The club had no debt, so they took out a loan in the first year to pay themselves a special dividend equivalent to the purchase price.

That’s a good read, LL. It seems the general principle that the football authorities prefer to see the result of a game settled on the pitch rather than by their decision. So the odds are, imho, that they will order a replay, charge Reading and then refer the matter to their Disciplinary Committee for adjudication.

They do though have a problem in the precedent this might set if the offending club, in this case Reading, win any replay as the fans of other teams might think they can gain an advantage from a losing position in a critical game. I would assume, therefore, that the punishment would be so severe (eg a huge points deduction) that any attempts to get games abandoned would be totally disincentivised.

Reading are in for some serious punishment.

I think team and club members means players and officials (like the Turkish president who ran on the pitch to assault the ref).  Fans are neither, so I don't think we'll get three points unfortunately.
