After passing the ball over 300 times first half we achieved 1 shot on target. We posed pretty much no threat at all to Sutton and from an entertainment perspective were as boring as watching paint dry.

This idea we are being clever by retaining possession but doing no attacking with it is fundamentally wrong.

Maybe but chasing a ball all half is tiring for the opposition so you keep doing it eventually they start switching off.

Yes I wish we had lost but given it a real go by creating hundreds of chances and being entertained.

Same on Saturday I would rather lose to Bolton but play expansive entertaining football !! 🙄😎🙈

Agree with you Olly

warren needs to get real.

ps I don’t find it boring watching the midfielders play slick football.

Another case of Crosby getting it spot on in terms of team selection, worked perfectly ahead of Saturday. They were a poor outfit, we were too slow first and did up it in the second, passed it very confidently again, I personally enjoy this style, especially compared to what we have seen in the past.

Walters looks a great prospect, I hope we keep giving him a go where we can. Only concern for me last night was Balmer again, he looked good first game but has struggled since. Job done overall and fingers crossed we get a decent draw. I fancy us against most sides at home, personally I’d like Everton or Chelsea at vale park, massive game and I’d say we have a decent chance.

Remind me how many halves are in a game. Second half they were tired, we kept passing, created chances ,scored goals and won, thank you very much.

Against the bottom team in L2 we mustered 12 shots and 5 on target with 2 goals. They had 9 shots, 2 on target and 1 goal.

We were desperately poor. Bailed ourselves out late in the game.

The reason we are poor is attitude. We not working to get the ball in the box and take shots. When we are down the sides of their box we believed getting it back to the centre halves or keeper is good play when it isn't. It's just really poor play.

Great win and amazing to be in the next round of the cup.

Are we two games away from the semi finals?

Was not able to watch it and watched the very brief highlights.

Sang & Walters did really well to hustle for the ball on the edge of our own area before Walters released Thomas  and Thomas did even better with the run & finish.

Really bad defending by Balmer but a great finish in the end from their player.

Great strike by Ojo but for me the keeper should be saving that. I would be disappointed if Ripley let that type of shot in but if you don't shoot, you don't score.

Interesting that the murmurs from the crowd were clearly enough that both the manager and captain had to mention it and our style of play in their post match interviews.

Personally I can see they have a plan and are creating chances… I wouldn’t want them to abandon all the work they have done in training to change to a tactic that hasn’t been worked on and doesn’t suit our players.

I suspect that the grievance falls into 2 camps.

1. Those that appreciate we have evolved but want us to be that bit more clinical around the box… hopefully that will come the more we use this brand new way of playing.

2. Those that don’t like the new style and just want to lump it in the box to Popey… as AC said, anyone that thinks that lumping it into the box against Sutton needs to give their head a wobble.

It must be so frustrating as a management team to sit in the 4th round and in the playoffs and have people groan.

If it’s like this when we are doing well, god help us when / if we hit a sticky patch.

I agree with this.

For most of my time being a Vale fan, Vale fans would give more support to those players that would rather get stuck in rather than have any skill.

I think that is an older generation thing and the younger generation are enjoying the new style of football.

We weren’t desperately poor and it wasn’t poor play. Crosby has explained why we set up like that and it makes sense. Why would we get balls into the box when our forward is tiny and there defenders huge? We won, didn’t get out of 3rd gear and are in the 4th round.

You get the ball in the box by way of passing on the deck.

Not a moan but can someone explain why we were shoehorned into 3 blocks of the paddock last night. I'm sure it wouldn't need any more stewards to open all of it as there were loads of them there anyway seemingly doing nothing. Just seemed a bit weird. It looks awful as well with the blocks being fenced off already behind each goal and one half of Lorne Street not being used. Capacity restrictions I get but makes us look tinpot

i'd take any big team away but love it at Vale park myself get the place packed out & give them a game 💪🏻

I agree. If it's a big team I don't mind home or away. If it's a lesser club, lower Prem, Championship hopefully get them at home and really go at them. Anyone else, home game preferably viewing it as a chance to progress. Is 5th round the quarter finals?
