Given the performance of the ticket office whenever I've tried to call them something needs doing.

Back on topic - thanks for your service Steve, but if SCFC are offering you megabucks as is rumoured you'd be daft to stay at Vale, particularly if your loyalties are divided.

In fairness, I've had problems getting through to the ticket office but after leaving a message they've rung me back at 5.30pm.

As for Steve Speed having divided loyalties, they might now be divided after if what's been rumoured is true.

There is no one left out of the old Port Vale. Is that the sign that synetics have got rid of everyone. Steve Speed would not have left hes been pushed without  a doubt. I have missed one there is one left in the ticket office, says it all really.

I think in Oder to survive in any business or any job you have to move with the times. I’m not saying Steve Speed hasn’t but it’s really bizarre how some people are surmising that this is some sort of callous act on behalf of the club.
If we as a fan base want things to remain as they were then what is the point of supporting a club. For me it’s the unfounded hope that we will get promoted or have a good cup run or produce a star player, I don’t support Vale to constantly believe we will stay in league 2 or get knocked out of any cup you could mention in the first round, for me it’s about furtherance, ambition and belief.

Many readers/posters on this site will surely remember Lol Hamlet, a magnificent servant to Vale through numerous decades, a Methodist lay preacher and all round great bloke. I remember him as our physio, running on to the pitch with a sponge carried in a half cut casey bladder with a towel around his neck, he reminded me of a boxer’s corner man. That was then and they were great times but I perish the thought of him being at the club now in the same role, the same massage techniques etc etc.

Just imagine that there is data available that strongly suggests that the majority of injuries that are sustained by our squad occur at Vale park ? I have no evidence for this but it could be true, could be down to an uneven surface? Who knows, if Speedy wanted the world to know why he is leaving I’m sure the Stokinel would love to run a story. It’s probably more dignified to have a quieter more respectful parting of the ways. The club certainly do not do their dirty washing in public anymore.

There’s nothing crueller to us all than the passage of time. Can I suggest the wisest thing that Steve Speed and all those offering up speculation can do is to shrug our shoulders and look forward to better days for both Steve and for our club.

I am always guarded about posting on here stating with 100% certainty however with 1000% certainty I can confidently state, that no thing is forever. (had to really think about double negatives in the last sentence)

Why, we had less injuries then than we do now, with a worse pitch.

Because in them days Lol and the cold water treatment they got was enough to get them on there feet. Now a days these Prima donna footballers have to roll round for 10 minutes then slowley limp off the pitch to pull their socks up above there knee before they run back on the pitch.Bring back the ice cold water they would soon get up forever Lol a true legend of the Vale.

Because maybe he had already decided to leave, and thus was working his notice period. During this period the club can adversise for a replacement.

I have known Steve for many, many years, since I worked at tge club from 1983 and he’s a true Vale fan, but life moves on for everyone, and for me since I retired but Steve has to look after himself and look after himself; he’s a legend and good luck to him; he deserves respect but, as in another post, he won’t move onto Sjoke just to dig up their old memories ; look after yourself Steve, Gary

No, my mind isn’t playing tricks on me, people did definitely go off injured in the 70’s. There may have been less rolling around and less going off as we only had one sub but I dare say there were probably more injuries in view of how games were reffed and the state of the pitches.

I think it's clear that SS isn't happy about leaving and feels he's been forced out. Whether that was the correct decision or not is debatable but I don't think he'd have been tempted away if he was happy at Vale Park.

Oooh...and so we open up another conspiracy theory! Did he tell you he felt he was forced out - because I thought there had only been an old interview with him?
